On The Young and the Restless, Lily has had quite a reaction to seeing Cane again, and learning that he is the enigmatic and mysterious billionaire, Aristotle Dumas. Is her response too much?
The Young and the Restless: Cane Ashby’s return

Lily (Christel Khalil) was led through the maze by Amanda (Mishael Morgan), heart thumping as to what Aristotle could want with her, and why she was the first one to meet the man behind the moniker. Nothing could have prepared her for what she saw and heard: the return of Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn).
All viewers know from excerpts of conversations happening behind the scenes that Lily and Cane were co-parenting, and they had had brief contact over the last several years. So there was nothing to prepare us for the amount of disgust and hate that Lily was now showing towards Cane. Where had it come from? His rise to infamy and fortune as Aristotle Dumas? Had he put her through any more stress or situations? Fans and viewers of The Young and the Restless took to the Soap Central Message Boards to discuss Lily’s reaction to Cane, and whether it was justified or was it just way over the top. From Lily’s flashbacks to Cane reminiscing about a time that he and Lily were dancing together, it has sparked quite a conversation.
Is Lily’s vitriol warranted?

“Wow, what a beautiful couple. I know it was just in Cane's mind, but it was striking. I really don't know why Lily is so upset. Your ex-husband is back and is a billionaire. Congratulate him. Give him a chance or not. Don't have a heart attack over it.” – Loyalyr (Senior Board member)

“I love New Cane, he's very handsome and I sure hope he sticks around for a very long time.” – Angelala
“I love the new Cane, I'm glad he's back, I wish Lily wouldn't be so angry with him, I mean he's a billionaire now, lighten up, Lily.” – Jeepgirl200
“I think they are a beautiful couple as well, even though it's just Cane daydreaming...he must really still be in love with Lily after all this time...Lily's anger is just way over the top! She says she doesn't want to leave Nice without hearing why Cane did all this, but every time he tries to explain it to her, she cuts him off and walks away! Maybe if Lily would just keep her mouth shut for a few, she could get the answers to her questions...I have honestly had enough of her over-the-top behavior...even calling what Cane has accomplished under the persona Dumas disgusting....why is it disgusting is what I would ask Lily because I'm not seeing it like that.” – Valued contributor zenmaster5

Lily does get some support in this, though, and has backup, which is why Lily has every right to be angry with Cane. According to Angeldar, “I can see why she's so angry. He's been deceitful for 6 years to her and their children. After 6 years, why would she want anything to do with him? Obviously, he is up to some notorious, evil plan and is still lying to her. Looks isn't everything. He still hasn't mentioned the illegitimate kid that he had while cheating on Lily and having her play mommy to it. He came into town in the first place on a con. Billy boy Abbot ran to her in prison and told her he was mucking around with Victoria. She was married to him twice. How many more times does she want to take a chance on this character? I also think someone will be killed, and he will be the one responsible for that, too. Money can buy anything. Holden is a fool. I think he will be caught up in something vicious by following Cane, and he will pay the price. Every one of those twits who thinks they can rally Cane to their side and work with him is out of their minds. That guy is all for himself.”
“It looks like he stayed in touch with his children for those six years. There has been no mention that he didn't support them. Some of his life is his business, not Lily's, as long as the children weren't affected. Lily can tell Cane to get lost, but she wants answers to every detail before she tells him to get lost.” – Loyalyr

“Cane came to town running from the Aussie mob and his father, Colin, who was the head of it. He'd testified against them, and Colin was convicted. P3 wanted him to go to GC and pretend to be him because he was never coming back. Cane wanted a new life, so he agreed, and P3 gave him vials of his blood so he could pass a DNA test. There was no nefarious "con." P3 wound up coming to GC anyway to vouch for Cane and explain why HE had come up with that plan. It wasn't Cane's idea.
If Cane were "all for himself," he'd not need to be bothered with either Lily or GC. He could literally go ANYWHERE else, and it would be much better than GC. As for Lily, he unfortunately is still in love with the stupe!” – Soapfan54

Whether you are on Team Lily or Team Cane, neither has had a glorious past in Y&R. (‘member when Lily killed Amanda's sister?) She was imprisoned for it, but in terms of forgiveness, if Lily can be forgiven, why can’t Cane? Surely, when residing in a glasshouse, one shouldn’t cast rocks?
