The Young and the Restless shocked fans when it revealed that Traci's mild-mannered boyfriend Alan Laurent is the man who has been holding Phyllis and Sharon hostage as he forces them to play a dangerous game. However, some fans have wondered if that is really Alan or if we have been watching his twin brother Martin all this time...

For nearly a year, Traci (Beth Maitland) has been falling in love with Ashley's (Eileen Davidson) former psychiatrist Alan Laurent (Christopher Cousins). In fact, he just proposed, and an over-the-moon Traci happily accepted. However, we now must wonder if Traci has been with the bad twin all along.

Last year, Traci's sister Ashley developed multiple personalities. We later learned the split was triggered by an encounter with Martin, who was posing as Alan. The real Alan was tied up somewhere. After a dramatic showdown, it seemed that Alan had won and Martin was killed. At the time, fans wondered which twin we watched take an interest in Traci, but since the story was brushed aside, the possibility of a twin switch fell off fans' radar.

Now that Alan is back on the scene in a big way and has been revealed as "The Voice" that locked Sharon (Sharon Case) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) in an abandoned mental health clinic, fans want to know why he did it. Could Alan really be his unhinged brother, Martin?

Traci's broken heart

As fans ponder whether the man responsible for the kidnapping is Alan or Martin, they know one thing for sure — Traci is about to go through some things.

"I love Traci and I’m not looking forward to seeing her get her heart broken. I don’t understand why Alan would target Phyllis and Sharon to play his sick psychopathic games on," wrote X user @SusanDaw1. "Either Alan is really Martin or they are both psychotic."

"Maybe Alan was the sociopath, not Martin," @alexaismyname2 tweeted. "Do we really want to believe Alan was the good twin this entire time?"

Perhaps these fans are onto something. Either both twins are crazy, Alan is the one who died, or Alan was the unhinged twin all along. Either way, Traci is the one who is going to be hurt most of all.
