Kyle and Summer came back to the Abbott mansion from trick-or-treating with Harrison. They agreed that they had a good time and were glad they could spend time together as a family for Harrison.

After Harrison went to have a bath, Summer told Kyle how Chance arrested Daniel and isn’t interested in looking at anyone else. Kyle hoped it wouldn’t affect Summer’s relationship with Chance. Summer said it was hard not to take it personally because if a guy as decent as Chance wouldn’t look for the real killer, what chance did Daniel have?

Kyle encouraged Summer to keep faith that the truth would prevail. He suggested a private investigator, but Summer said Christine had probably already thought of that. Kyle was confident that Christine would be a great lawyer for Daniel. Kyle gave Summer a hug to comfort her as Harrison watched from the stairs and smiled.

Harrison joined his parents on the couch and offered to share his Halloween candy. He noted that it would have been fun if Claire could have come, too, but added that he missed his mom living there. Summer assured Harrison that she was only a phone call away and assured him that they could do more family stuff like that. Harrison asked if they could both read a bedtime story to him.

After Harrison went to bed, Summer and Kyle sat on the couch and had a drink. Kyle told Summer about Jack and Diane’s marriage falling apart. Summer was surprised but noted that Jack would probably beg Kyle to return to Jabot. Kyle wasn’t so sure. He admitted he had done and said some terrible things and didn’t think Jack could forgive him.

“I’m not looking for a job. I’m just hoping that one day, we can be comfortable around each other again,” Kyle said. Summer was impressed and said she was enjoying being around this new, more mature, and less angry version of Kyle

Claire knocked at the door. She explained that Harrison wanted her to come by to see him in his costume. Kyle told her that Harrison was already in bed. Claire spotted Summer on the couch and noticed they were sharing a drink.

Claire apologized for interrupting, but Summer said she needed to get going. “Can I entice you to stay?” Kyle asked. Summer said she would take a raincheck. On her way out, Summer thanked Kyle for the great evening. She added that it was good for Harrison and the two of them. Kyle offered to walk her out, but Claire looked concerned.

Once alone, Kyle told Claire about his evening with Harrison and Summer. He shared he had talked to Summer about Daniel and that the situation was distressing. Claire seemed confused about what was happening between Kyle and Summer. Kyle told her not to worry and kissed her.

At Society, Daniel was having so many drinks he couldn’t see straight. Tessa found him at the bar and ensured he wasn’t driving. Daniel assured her that he was traveling by cab and being responsible, noting that it was probably an odd thing to hear from a murder suspect.

Tessa put Daniel at ease and hung out with him. She ensured he drank some water as he ordered more drinks and listened while he vented about his life. Daniel reminisced about Halloween and how it was Heather’s favorite holiday. “Now it’s just reminding me she’s gone, and I’m surrounded by monsters,” Daniel said.

Tessa looked around the restaurant. She noted that Daniel was the only customer and that Halloween was almost over. Tessa suggested that Daniel help her pack up all the decorations. Tessa thought it could be cathartic to “put away all the scary stuff and bring in good energy.”

After they were done, Daniel was surprised that he felt better. “I didn’t realize how good it would feel to get rid of all the monsters,” Daniel said as he looked around. Tessa asked if Daniel would make a habit of drinking his grief away. “I haven’t had a chance to process the fact that Heather is gone,” Daniel explained. He added that he worried that the last face Heather saw was her murderer’s.

Tessa believed that Daniel would be cleared and the real killer punished, but Daniel pointed out that there were plenty of innocent people in jail. Tessa advised Daniel that when he beat the charges and got answers, Lucy would need him, and he should be there. Daniel thanked Tessa. “I came here tonight feeling pretty beaten down and hopeless, and I don’t feel that way anymore,” Daniel said.

Claire had dinner with her parents and told them she had made a decision about her future. Claire said she had considered Mariah and Tessa’s offer to be a nanny to Aria, but she would take Nikki’s offer instead.

Cole and Victoria were surprised as they thought working with children was a more natural fit. “I’m a Newman now, and I want to see if there’s a place for me at the family company,” Claire explained. Cole and Victoria looked concerned. Victoria told Claire she needed to tell her something.

Victoria told Claire how Victor planned to take Chancellor from Billy and give it to Nikki to run. Victoria explained that she wasn’t going to tell Claire unless she was seriously considering participating, but now that she is, Claire should know the truth. Cole said it was less of a job opportunity and more of a bomb waiting to go off.

Cole and Victoria assured Claire they weren’t trying to be discouraging. Claire appreciated having a family that looked out for her. Claire left to see Harrison, leaving Cole and Victoria alone. Cole expressed how concerned he was for Claire. He said he took pride in avoiding working at Newman when he and Victoria were together last time.

Victoria reminded Cole that they couldn’t control what Claire chose to do in life. She admitted that Billy would eventually lose because Victor always got what he wanted. Victoria added that it would get ugly because Billy wanted revenge. Cole and Victoria both wished they could protect Claire from what was going to happen at Chancellor.

Summer saw Daniel walking into the park and joined him. Daniel told his sister he needed to take control of his life. He explained that he didn’t want to sit around feeling sorry for himself and needed to find his way out of the nightmare. Daniel said that Christine was a phenomenal lawyer, but he couldn’t wait for her to find a solution for him. Summer asked if Daniel was thinking of being his own detective. “If I want to prove my innocence, I need to find the killer — and that’s exactly what I intend to do,” Daniel told Summer.
