On the Monday, July 28th episode of The Young and the Restless, Chance died a hero, Carter took his own life, and Nick and Sharon kissed.
What happened on The Young and the Restless

In Nice, Lauren begged Nikki not to sign Chancellor over to Cane. Lauren protested that Nikki was under duress, but Amanda noted that Nikki wanted to sign. Lauren insisted on talking to her friend alone. After Amanda stepped away, Lauren surmised that Amanda was trying to push things along quickly because she was afraid the real guilty party would show up before Nikki signed the papers. Nikki recognized that waiting wouldn’t keep her son safe, but giving up Chancellor would. Nikki called Amanda back and agreed to sign once Amanda took her to Nick and released him.
Amanda led Nikki and Lauren to the storage room where Nick and Sharon had been held, but they found it empty. Amanda promised that Nick and Sharon had been treated very well, but Nikki spotted blood and demanded to know what they’d done with her son. Amanda pointed out that it could be the guard’s blood. Nikki warned that if Nick was injured or even hungry, there would be “hell to pay.” Nikki and Lauren stalked off.
Victor and Chance eavesdropped in the maze as Cane implored Carter to tell him what had happened, so Cane could protect him. Cane theorized that Carter had killed Damian in an effort to help clear the way for Cane and Lily to reunite. The security guard suddenly showed up and announced that Nick and Sharon had escaped. Cane admonished his minion for being careless and ordered him to find Nick. Victor quietly slipped away to find Nick. Cane ordered Carter to tell him every detail so he could make it go away.
Carter cried that Cane was supposed to have an epic, beautiful reunion with his wife, and Damian hadn’t had any right to interfere. Carter asserted that Damian had needed to be removed from the equation, and he’d seen it as the perfect opportunity to do something for Cane after everything Cane had done for him. Cane argued that he’d never asked for it, but Carter reasoned that an excellent employee anticipated his boss’s needs. Carter intended to disappear and assume a new identity.
Cane offered to talk to Amanda about taking Carter’s case, but Carter insisted that there was still time to get away. Chance emerged from hiding and noted that Cane had put the wrong person under house arrest. Carter blasted Cane for tricking him after saying he’d protect Carter. Cane replied that it was no longer possible. Carter protested that he hadn’t acted for his sake but for Cane’s, and he’d removed Damian as an obstacle with the efficiency Cane had trained him for. Cane spat that he hadn’t trained Carter for murder.
Carter contended that he’d tried to make sure Cane had plausible deniability by incapacitating him, but the strategy had been ruined when Cane had let Damian drink the bourbon. Carter bragged that it had worked in his favor by weakening his target, and he’d removed the obstacle with precision. Cane clarified that it had been Carter’s choice. Lily joined them and asked what was happening. Carter grabbed her and held a gun to her head.
Carter growled that he’d been loyal to Cane, but it was all about what Cane wanted and needed, including having Lily love him again. Carter reasoned that all Cane had wanted was another chance, and he’d owed Cane that. Carter ranted that everything he’d done had been for Cane’s happiness and future, yet Cane was turning his back on him. Chance implored Carter to let Lily go and drop the weapon because there was nowhere to go.
Carter revealed that the train tracks had been clear for days, and Cane had been lying to everyone about it. Carter scoffed at letting the police lock him up when Cane had gotten everything he’d wanted. Cane denied that he’d ever wanted anyone killed. Carter huffed that Cane only looked out for himself, and he intended to do the same. Carter forced Lily to go with him and told the men not to follow them.
Sharon, Billy, and Sally helped Nick to the main train car. Billy headed out to find Nikki and figure out a way to get Nick down the mountain. Sally prepared to check on the roads, and she rushed out over Nick’s objections that it was dangerous. Sharon considered retrieving some acetaminophen from her room, but Nick pleaded with her to stay.
Victor walked in, and Sharon filled him in about her and Nick’s escape. Victor snarled that Nick’s injury was Cane’s doing. Nick requested that his father not do anything crazy because he just wanted to get home. Victor imagined Cane had sent the guard away with his other friends and killers. Sharon incredulously asked if one of Cane’s people had killed Damian. Victor hissed that Cane would pay for it.
Meanwhile, Billy ran into Nikki and Lauren and informed them that Nick had been hurt and was being cared for on the train. Nikki and Lauren took off. Amanda greeted Billy, and he barked that not even she could get Cane out of the mess. Amanda defended that Cane hadn’t murdered anyone and had valid reasons for putting Nick under house arrest. Billy flatly stated that Nick was bleeding out and needed to go to a hospital, so the noose around Cane’s neck was getting tighter. Billy stalked off.
In the office, Amanda enabled some communications equipment that had been jamming the network and preventing guests from receiving signals on their phones. Amanda called the police and asked for immediate assistance.
Carter led Lily at gunpoint through the maze, and they stumbled upon Billy. Carter ordered Billy to stay back, and Lily whimpered that Carter had killed Damian for Cane. Carter ordered her to shut up, and Billy suggested they calm down because there was nowhere to go. Carter dared Billy to stop him. Cane appeared and recommended that Carter take him instead. Cane encouraged Carter to let Lily go.
Chance lurked in the shrubbery as Cane reasoned that he was Carter’s ticket out of there. Cane raised his hands to show he was unarmed, and he softly asked Carter to let Lily go. Lily ran over and cowered behind Billy. Carter crowed that he’d made Cane’s estate a showplace worthy of his status, but it didn’t matter because Cane expected everything and gave back nothing. Carter accused Cane of not caring about anything other than Chancellor or Lily, and he taunted that Cane had nothing to live for because Lily didn’t want him.
Carter proclaimed that everything he’d done had been to thank Cane for the life Cane had freed him of, and he prepared to free Cane from his. Lily cried out Cane’s name as Chance raced in, and he and Carter struggled over the firearm. The gun went off, and Chance stumbled back, revealing a bullet wound to the chest. Carter dashed away as Cane, Billy, and Lily tended to Chance. Chance gasped that it was too late. Billy felt for a pulse and reported that Chance was dead. They heard another gunshot in the distance.
Cane, Billy, and Lily found Carter’s body. Jack and Diane arrived after hearing the sound of the gunshot, and Cane informed everyone that Carter had taken his own life after admitting to killing Damian. Billy realized he had to find Abby to tell her about Chance, and someone had to tell Jill and Nina. Cane asked if Lily was okay. “I just want to go home,” she cried. He replied that he could make it happen.
Amanda freaked out when she saw Carter’s body, and Cane asked her to contact the police. Jack angrily realized Cane had had access to communications all along, and he raged that all the deaths were on Cane. Cane declared that everyone could go home shortly. Jack pointed out that Damian wouldn’t see his mother or brother, and Chance’s death would destroy Nina and Jill. Cane maintained that he hadn’t asked for any of it, but he acknowledged that he had to live with it.
Lily privately apologized to Cane for accusing him of killing Damian. Cane swore that he hadn’t changed as much as she thought, and he was still the man she’d loved. Lily lectured that talking like that was what had gotten them there, and the people he'd wanted to be his friends had become his enemies. Cane accepted that he had his work cut out for him. Lily clucked that he’d already lost, but he just couldn’t see it.
Billy suggested that Cane rethink going back to Genoa City. Cane said nothing had changed, but he just had to work harder. Cane proposed that they talk about his investment in Abbott Communications once they got there. Jack couldn’t believe Cane was still working an angle.
After Amanda returned, Cane lamented that he’d failed as much as he’d succeeded in Genoa City, so he’d left, only to fail all over again. Amanda assured him that he hadn’t, since getting anyone there had only been a distraction from everything going on in Genoa City. Cane reminded her that he and Lily had also gotten married less than 100 miles from the chateau. Cane vowed not to give up on Lily.
Phyllis joined Billy, and he guessed she’d heard that Chance had died trying to protect Cane. Phyllis imagined it had soured Billy’s desire to partner with Cane. “Absolutely not,” Billy replied, adding that he wanted Chancellor more than ever out of respect for Chance’s memory. Billy implied that he could use Phyllis’ help.
Meanwhile, Sally returned to the train and reported that she’d made it down to where the tracks had been blocked, but the workers had reported that the path had been clear for two days. Sharon felt Nick’s forehead for a fever in case his wound had gotten infected. Nikki raced in and hovered over Nick.
Victor’s phone pinged, signaling service had been restored. Victor called Adam and requested that he send a helicopter to take an injured Nick to the hospital. Everyone else’s phones began chiming. Victor sensed that Cane knew he’d lost.
A short time later, the group heard a helicopter overhead, and everyone but Nick and Sharon stepped out to prepare to leave. Nick marveled at all the fuss over a little scratch. Sharon applauded him for always being there when she needed him. He replied that they’d been there for one another and always would be. Nick requested that Sharon move closer, and she worried he was in pain. “Closer,” he repeated, and he leaned in and kissed her.
