On the Monday, September 22nd episode of The Young and the Restless, Traci and Cane reunited, Billy suggested he and Jack take Cane down together, and Tessa and Daniel planned to investigate.
What happened on The Young and the Restless

At the Abbott mansion, Jack and Diane welcomed Traci home. Jack invited Traci to have dinner in their newly decorated dining room, but she requested a raincheck because she had plans to meet Amy at Society. Jack bet that Amy wished Damian had never met Aristotle Dumas. Traci conveyed her shock that Cane had turned out to be Dumas, since the man she’d known would never deceive his family and friends. Jack clucked that Cane was a very different person than she’d once known.
Jack remembered that Cane had been the inspiration behind one of Traci’s books. Traci explained that she and Cane had become close when he’d needed a friend after his divorce from Lily, and he’d wanted it to be more, but Traci had known it wouldn’t work. Traci continued that their relationship had dissolved when Cane had left town, and they hadn’t spoken since.
Traci enthused about the therapist who had helped her realize that it hadn’t been her fault that a sociopath had manipulated her. Diane wondered how Traci felt about what Cane had done, and Traci swore she had no ill will toward him. Diane asked if Jack had been able to connect with Billy. Jack informed Traci that Billy had become enamored with the idea of Cane using him to reclaim Chancellor. Jack bemoaned that his attempt to talk sense into Billy hadn’t gone well, and he predicted that Billy was about to make a giant mistake that could send him to prison.
On Cane’s train, Billy barked that Cane couldn’t just blow him off with a curt phone call. Billy demanded to know why he was out, and Cane explained that there were too many variables at play. Billy groused that it didn’t track when Phyllis was there, and he asked if Michael was his replacement. Cane ordered Billy to go home and focus on calming Sally down to avoid losing her over a business deal. Billy contended that it was personal to him, since he’d lost Abbott Communications and Chancellor, and he had nothing left. “So, you owe me, brother,” Billy huffed.
Cane reasoned that things were too personal for Billy, and he needed someone level-headed. Cane urged Billy to make things right with Sally before it was too late, since Cane had learned how hard it was to win back someone after pushing them away. Billy snarled that he’d never be as much of a screwup as Cane, and he warned Cane not to crawl back to him when everything blew up in his face. Billy added that Cane wouldn’t like what happened next, and he stalked out.
Cane insisted that Michael fix the situation immediately. Michael preferred to clarify his position first, but Cane was adamant that stopping Billy took precedence. Cane expected Billy to lash out, and he stressed that Billy needed to be contained so he didn’t undermine their goals. Cane promised he and Michael would clarify things once Michael made the problem go away. After Michael headed out, Phyllis applauded Cane’s decision to get rid of Billy. Cane asked why there still seemed to be a rift between Phyllis and Michael.
Phyllis maintained that Michael owed her after he’d defended the woman who’d framed Daniel. Cane pointed out that she demanded strict loyalty from the people in her life, but she would throw anyone under the bus to get what she wanted. Phyllis countered that Cane was the same way, and it was why they’d pulled together. Cane asked if she was tired and wanted to call it a night. Phyllis indicated that she was hungry, and Cane inquired whether she had plans. “Now I do,” she replied.
Billy ordered a drink at the bar at Society, and Michael joined him shortly thereafter. Billy cautioned that it would be a waste of time to try to neutralize him. Michael claimed he just needed a drink and that he missed talking to Billy. Billy asked why a supposedly retired Michael was working for Cane. Michael swore he wasn’t Billy’s replacement and that he just wanted to make sure Billy didn’t do anything rash.
Billy grumbled that a lot of people had tried to save him from himself, but that time felt different because Cane had screwed him over. Billy questioned why he shouldn’t blow up Cane’s master plan, and he surmised Michael was there because Cane was afraid of what Billy might do. Billy suggested that Michael go back to his boss and tell him that he’d messed with wrong person. Michael offered to pick up the tab if Billy listened to reason.
Billy cautioned that Cane couldn’t be trusted, and he advised Michael to get out while he still could and not risk his life on an illegal scheme. Michael argued that Billy hadn’t had a problem with it when he’d thought he’d get what he wanted. Billy groused that Cane had dangled Chancellor in front of his face before yanking it away, and his eyes were wide open. Billy proclaimed that Cane had a new enemy, and Cane wouldn’t like what Billy had planned for him next. Billy thanked Michael for the drink and headed out.
Michael was thrilled when Traci joined him. She mentioned that Amy had canceled their plans, but she intended to stay for dinner. Michael informed her that she’d just missed Billy, and Traci asked if she should be worried about her brother. Cane and Phyllis entered the restaurant, and he and Traci locked eyes. Phyllis wondered why Michael wasn’t with Billy.
Cane and Phyllis crossed over to the bar, and Cane hugged Traci and said it was wonderful to see her. Michael received a text message from Lauren, saying she was finished with Christine and couldn’t wait for his surprise. Michael headed out, and Cane followed him to ask if the problem had been taken care of. Michael assured Cane that he would handle it.
Traci expressed surprise that Phyllis knew Cane. Phyllis explained that Cane had invited her to his party in Nice and that they were working together. Phyllis asked if Traci ever thought of Martin. Traci shared that she sometimes woke up and imagined Alan was still next to her, but she also had nightmares about Martin hurting her and her family. Phyllis confided that she still had nightmares about her and Sharon fighting for their lives. Traci apologized for what Martin had put them through, but Phyllis reiterated that it hadn’t been Traci’s fault.
Phyllis queried whether Traci was getting revenge through her writing, but Traci commented that an author never told her secrets. Traci promised that Phyllis, Sharon, and Ashley would get the first copies of her latest book. Phyllis toasted to them and the future as Cane returned. Cane gushed that Traci looked amazing. He mused that he’d thought a lot about her over the years, and she responded that she’d thought a lot about him, too. Phyllis squirmed as they embraced.
Meanwhile, Diane figured there wasn’t much she and Jack could do to stop whatever happened next because Billy had made up his mind. The front door slammed shut, and Billy said he’d heard his name. Jack ordered Billy to go home if he’d been drinking. Billy swore he didn’t want to fight – he wanted to make a deal.
A shocked Jack said he’d thought Billy wanted nothing to do with him. Billy conceded that he’d said some stupid things, but he’d seen the truth, and Cane was as big a problem as Jack had warned he was. Billy proposed that he and Jack take Cane down together.
At Crimson Lights, Tessa cheerfully greeted Daniel and reported that Lucy was babysitting Aria. Tessa observed that Daniel seemed off. He revealed that Mariah had reached out to him to talk, and Tessa contemplated why Mariah had reached out to him and not her. Daniel pointed out that Mariah knew he and Tessa had gotten closer while spending time together at their guitar lessons. He revealed that Mariah had asked him to look after Tessa and Aria, and it had sounded like Mariah wouldn’t be going back to them.
Tessa recalled that Mariah had talked about going to Boston to get more help. Tessa confided that Mariah had admitted that she’d tried to kill someone, but Tessa hadn’t had a chance to react because Mariah had bolted afterward. Tessa asked if Daniel thought it was true that Mariah had tried to kill another human being, but she panicked upon realizing she’d made him think about the way Heather had died.
Daniel insisted that Mariah wasn’t a monster like Ian, and he couldn’t believe she’d attempt to kill someone. Tessa struggled with what to believe, and she worried that Ian’s return had triggered something dark in Mariah. Tessa considered whether Mariah was right about Tessa and Aria being better off without her. Daniel felt Mariah was most concerned about protecting Tessa and Aria. Tessa thought Mariah would only lash out if someone she loved was in danger.
Tessa lamented that Mariah hadn’t been the same since her business trip. Tessa grappled with whether to try to convince Mariah to stay in town or to let her go and figure out her own life as a single mom. Daniel pledged to support Tessa and Mariah if he could, but he hesitated to overstep or take sides. Tessa joked that if he chose a side, it had better be hers. They laughed.
Daniel fondly remembered a time when he could be wild and crazy and had no responsibilities or problems. Daniel asked what Tessa’s gut was telling her. Tessa admitted that she still loved Mariah, and she couldn’t let her wife suffer on her own. Tessa decided to go to the hotel where Mariah had stayed on her trip and talk to people to see if she could get to the bottom of what had happened.
Daniel recalled that he’d just been telling his dad about his disagreements with Heather, and he regretted wasting time when most of them hadn’t meant anything. Tessa planned to call Aria’s nanny and take time off work, and she hoped she wasn’t walking into anything sketchy. Daniel recommended that she not go alone, but Tessa couldn’t imagine who she could drag along. “Maybe your best guitar student,” Daniel proposed, adding that he had nothing but time if she wanted the company.
