The Young and the Restless: The Genoa City sad sack who could use some Christmas cheer

On The Young and the Restless, all of our favorite (and not so favorite) characters will gather with loved ones today to celebrate Christmas. One character might be a bit gloomy, though, since his girlfriend broke up with him a couple of months ago.

Of course, we're talking about Kyle, who just can't get into the holiday spirit now that he and Claire are apart. He definitely could use some Christmas cheer.

When Jack (Peter Bergman) came home to find Kyle (Michael Mealor) wrapping presents, Kyle agonized over whether or not he should give Claire (Hayley Erin) the gift he bought her a long time ago. "How many times can I tell her I'm sorry?" he lamented. No matter what he did to fix things with her, he told Jack, nothing worked. We've been seeing this sad-sack version of Kyle for too long now. Can he please stop moping over Claire? Jack has more serious problems to worry about right now. Their family company, Jabot, is under attack -- and from Jack's worst enemy, Victor (Eric Braeden).

By the way, where is Harrison (Redding Munsell)? It's a wonder that we didn't see him this week, getting excited about Christmas and wondering what presents he's getting. Maybe Kyle could have taken him ice skating or Christmas shopping. Spending time with his son would be a great way for Kyle to take his mind off Claire and enjoy the holidays, as long as Harrison doesn't ask about her. It was sort of a letdown that we didn't get to see the cute little tyke. Maybe he will make an appearance next week when the Abbotts ring in the new year?

Kyle is right about making a clean break from Claire

Kyle made a good point when he told Jack that maybe a clean break from Claire would be the wisest decision he could make. Claire doesn't seem ready for a commitment yet. Her head has been all over the place, and she is still attracted to Holden (Nathan Owens). She still cares for Kyle, but he needs to move on with his life. He's kept it on hold long enough.

Remember when Cane (Billy Flynn) volunteered to serve meals at Crimson Lights on the Thanksgiving episode of The Young and the Restless? Maybe Kyle could do that for Christmas. We know it's hard to imagine wealthy Kyle Abbott performing a charitable, selfless act like that. But maybe it's time he did. It would help him to understand the true meaning of Christmas, and at the same time, it would take his mind off of Claire for a few hours. He would feel good about himself, knowing that he spent those hours doing something worthwhile, serving the less fortunate in his community.

Kyle needs a male friend to hang out with

Kyle doesn't really have any close male friends outside of his own family. He could use a good pal to hang out with when he's trying to forget about his messy love life. Maybe they could have a drink at Society?

He did have a meaningful talk with his uncle, Billy (Jason Thompson), on Tuesday's episode of The Young and the Restless. But Billy isn't always the best person to give advice on matters of the heart, considering that he's had his own share of romantic problems in the past.

Maybe Kyle should watch a classic Christmas movie, like It's a Wonderful Life or Miracle on 34th Street, to put him in the Christmas spirit. There's nothing like a great movie, especially a holiday one, to pull us into another world and make us forget our problems for a couple of hours.

Merry Christmas, Y&R fans! Happy holidays, and catch all-new episodes of The Young and the Restless weekdays on CBS and Paramount Plus.
