On The Young and the Restless, we've watched many characters being utilized due to their connection to big Genoa City corporations like Newman Enterprises, Jabot, Chancellor Industries, and Winters, Inc. But other GC residents should either be involved in the current Cane drama or in a separate storyline of their own. Here are three characters who need a good storyline:

Lily Winters on The Young and the Restless

Cane (Billy Flynn) still loves Lily (Christel Khalil) and wants her back, and we've seen numerous scenes of him asking for a second chance. He wants to regain her trust after the damage he's done, keeping his secret identity of Aristotle Dumas for six years. Meanwhile, Lily has told him repeatedly that their time together has come and gone.

She probably still loves him, but will she give him another chance? Maybe one day, but in the meantime, she needs her own storyline. All we're getting is a Lily who spends most of her scenes complaining about how untrustworthy Cane and Audra (Zuleyka Silver) are. Lily is a bright, beautiful young lady who deserves better. We need to see her in a storyline where her warm, kind nature shines through. That's the Lily who Cane fell in love with years ago.

Some fans have suggested that she could reconnect with Traci (Beth Maitland), who is her children Charlie and Mattie's godmother and who is also the mother of her deceased friend, Colleen (then-Tammin Sursok). This potential storyline would get Lily out of her family orbit, which is where we usually see her, and give her another character to interact with (a character who has a connection to her past). Traci is a loving, caring person who could be a wonderful mother figure to Lily, especially since Lily's own mother, Drucilla (Victoria Rowell), died years ago.

Devon Winters

In many ways, Devon (Bryton James) and Lily almost feel like the same character. They are siblings, but that's not all they have in common. Most of the time, we see them in scenes where all they do is engage in suspicious talk about this character or that one. They can each be judgmental, concerned, and untrusting. But Devon is another character who deserves a good story.

Maybe we could see some scenes of him with Nick (Joshua Morrow), Victoria (Amelia Heinle), and Adam (Mark Grossman), who are his in-laws, courtesy of his marriage to Abby (Melissa Ordway). We don't see him interact with them often, if at all. Since he's part of the Newman family as Abby's husband, and since Cane may go after the Winters, Inc., as well as Newman Enterprises, it would be great to see Devon band together with the Newmans to discuss how they're going to protect their companies from Cane. They could brainstorm possible strategies, in case Jack (Peter Bergman) and Victor's (Eric Braeden) plan fails.

Nate Hastings

Now that Nate (Sean Dominic) refuses to take Audra back, he's going to need another storyline. The last one involved him learning he had a half-brother, Damian (Jermaine Rivers), and reuniting Damian with his mother, Amy (Valarie Pettiford). If Damian hadn't been murdered in France, we could have seen more storylines evolve for the two half-brothers. It's a shame he was killed off, both for Nate and Amy.

So is there another storyline for Nate on the horizon? It would be interesting if he decided to practice medicine again. Several years ago, he suffered nerve damage to his hand and was told he couldn't perform surgeries anymore. But soap writers can always find a way to reverse that diagnosis.

After all, we need more doctors on The Young and the Restless. We don't see Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) very often. Since our Y&R characters are often victims of fires, kidnappings, shootings, stabbings, druggings, or illnesses, they need a reliable surgeon on hand. Could that be Nate?
