Why is Michael keeping Lauren in the dark on The Young and the Restless?

On The Young and the Restless, it feels like there may be trouble ahead for one of the most popular and longest married couples on the show: Michael (Christian LeBlanc) and Lauren (Tracey Bregman). December of 2025 marks their twentieth wedding anniversary, but with the Cane drama taking over the lives of most of the Genoa City residents, will Michael and Lauren stay strong in their marriage long enough to celebrate it?

Recently, Cane (Billy Flynn) offered Michael a job as a fixer. At first, Michael said he wanted to talk it over with Lauren. But apparently he hasn't yet. In Friday's episode, he told Cane he wanted to protect her from knowing about any compromising duties Cane may assign him. We know Lauren is going to be both concerned and angry when she finds out, especially since the very reason Michael quit working for Victor was that Victor put him in compromising situations. Plus, she will be furious that Michael didn't tell her that Cane even offered him a job, let alone that he has accepted it, and that now he will be ping-ponging between Cane and Victor.

What happened Friday on The Young and the Restless

On Friday's episode of The Young and the Restless, Michael accepted Cane's job offer, and the two men shook on it. But first, he visited Victor and basically told him he would take the job and act as a spy for him, trying to find out whatever information he could about Cane's business endeavors.

Michael and Lauren have a stable, solid marriage. They were separated once, but they never divorced. She is the one who convinced him to quit working for Victor. Now, even though he isn't acting as Victor's lawyer, he's still stepping back into the lion's den (in a manner of speaking). After all, acting as a spy for The Great Victor Newman can't be easy. We don't envy Michael.

Plus, after everything Cane put them through in France, she would not want Michael getting involved with him. The fact that Michael demanded Cane keep their working relationship a secret will only fuel the fire with Lauren and leave her wondering just what dirty deeds Michael will be doing for Cane and why. What will Cane do when he finds out Michael took the job to be Victor's spy? Lauren will be livid that Michael is taking such a huge risk, and he hasn't even shared it with her.

Will Michael eventually go back to work for Victor?

Michael told Victor he misses their friendship, but Victor is still sour because Michael quit working for him. Now Michael is trying to make amends, in a way, by getting the lowdown on Cane's business activities and reporting back to Victor. He says he's doing it for the greater good to prevent Cane from hurting the people both Michael and Victor care about. Is this all leading to Michael resuming his role as Victor's lawyer?

How will Lauren find out Michael is working for Cane?

Michael's first assignment from Cane is to make amends with Phyllis. He called her and arranged to meet at the park, where no one could overhear them. Okay, now we see where this is going. She will be suspicious about why Michael is suddenly so interested in repairing their friendship. Will she somehow be able to connect the dots and figure out that Cane hired him? Even though Michael insisted on keeping his business arrangement with Cane private, we know how pushy Phyllis can be. She will tell Cane she has a right to know what's going on, since she is on his team. And if he does tell Phyllis he hired Michael, then what's to stop her from telling Lauren?

However, Lauren finds out, we just hope it doesn't put Michael in the doghouse with her. They are one of the only happy couples on The Young and the Restless right now. Hopefully, the two of them will work through whatever shady activities Cane gets Michael involved in, so they can celebrate their twentieth anniversary in a few months.
