In news that hasn't made any jaws drop but has definitely brought about huge smiles, NBC has decided to renew its hit primetime dramedy This Is Us, which stars The Young and the Restless alum Justin Hartley (ex-Adam Newman), for a second and third season.
"We all got our wish that this is a hit show," said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment. "This Is Us is as good as anything we've ever had, we're thrilled to renew it for two seasons and there's no doubt it will have a long life on NBC. On behalf of everyone at NBC, we're grateful for the artistry of the cast, crew, and producers assembled by our gifted creator, Dan Fogelman. In a world where there are literally hundreds of television dramas, we're proud to have one of the very best that is also one of the highest-rated."
This Is Us has indeed performed quite well since its debut, averaging a 4.6 rating in adults 18-49 and 14.6 million viewers overall in "live plus seven day" results from Nielsen Media Research. Those impressive numbers make it the number one new show of the season in the coveted 18-49 demographic and television's number four entertainment series in that key demographic.
"Not that I'm surprised, but this is FANTASTIC!" tweeted Hartley's fiancée, Chrishell Stause (Bethany Bryant, Y&R; ex-Jordan Ridgeway, Days of our Lives; ex-Amanda Dillon, All My Children), about the renewal news.

As NBC states, This Is Us is a refreshingly honest and provocative series that follows a unique ensemble whose paths cross, and their life stories intertwine in curious ways. The show is a "smart, modern series that will challenge your everyday presumptions about the people you think you know."
The cast of This Is Us includes Hartley, Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz, Sterling K. Brown, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, and Ron Cephas Jones.
