No go for Lucci's primetime pilot

Susan Lucci was to head back to ABC in the fall season -- but the actress' pilot has not been picked up. After 41 years of playing Erica Kane in daytime, the actress was to have had a chance to spread her comedic wings in primetime.

It looks like Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) will not be returning to ABC this fall after all. The actress, who spent 41 years on the network's daytime lineup as the inimitable Erica Kane, had been cast in the primetime pilot for Marc Cherry's planned series, Devious Maids.

ABC did not pick up the show for the fall season.

Devious Maids was to have followed four maids who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills and struggle with their own ambition and dreams. Lucci was cast as Genevieve Delacourt, a "beautiful, wealthy woman" who employed one of the maids -- and spent most of her life attracting man after man after man.

Lucci earned praise for her comedic talents, but television viewers won't get a chance to see it.

Lucci will, as previously reported, host the new reality series, Deadly Affairs, for the Investigation Discovery channel this fall.
