AMC's Peter White has died at the age of 86

All My Children's Peter White, who played Linc Tyler, son of matriarch Phoebe Tyler, has passed away from cancer at the age of 86.

Sad news for Daytime fans. Multiple sources are reporting that Peter White, best known to soap fans for his role as Lincoln Tyler on ABC's All My Children, has passed away at the age of 86. His passing was confirmed by his AMC co-star Kathleen Noone, who played Ellen Dalton from 1978 to 2011. White died in Los Angeles on November 1, 2023, from melanoma.

White was born in New York City, graduated from Northwestern University's School of Communications, and he went on to study acting at Yale School of Drama. Even though he was known for his role as matriarch Phoebe Tyler's (Ruth Warrick) son Linc on All My Children on and off from 1976 through 2005, his first soap opera role was on CBS' The Secret Storm as Jerry Ames from 1965 to 1966.

In 1968, while working alongside Myrna Loy touring in Barefoot in the Park, he was approached about playing Alan McCarthy in the off-Broadway play The Boys in the Band, a play about a group of gay men who gather in New York City for a birthday party. Initially, he was hesitant to take the role because he worried that it might be too big of a risk at a time when things had been moving for him. In an interview for Soap Opera Digest, he revealed that Loy, whom he considered his mentor, had told him that an actor had to take some risks. Luckily, White listened to Loy because the role earned him critical acclaim. In 1970, White and the rest of the cast signed on for the film version of the groundbreaking play, which was directed by William Friedkin.

White had a prolific television career. He appeared in primetime soap operas Dallas, Dynasty, Knots Landing, and Falcon Crest as well as numerous popular primetime shows such as Matlock, Hart to Hart, Scarecrow & Mrs. King, Hill Street Blues, The West Wing, The X-Files, and Ally McBeal. White's film credits include Dave, Armageddon, Thirteen Days, and First Daughter.

According to Noone, White had not been married, and he did not have any children.
