Hi AMC fans. I'm new here to the AMC Pages as a writer. I've been reading and enjoying these pages for a long time, and I'm so happy to be part of this great website. I started watching AMC when it first went on the air one day before my birthday in 1970, which was long before VCR's were in almost every household. Back then, I lived one block away from where I worked, and I would run home on my lunch hour so that I could watch the show. If I couldn't get away, I'd listen to the soundtrack on the radio. I used to listen to One Life to Live and General Hospital as well. Years later when I got my first VCR, I would tape the shows and watch them at night. After a while, three hours of soaps became too much to handle, so I had to make a choice. For me, there was never a question as to which was my favorite. AMC was always #1 with me. I have loved it from the beginning, through all of the many changes it has gone through and I still love it today. It is the ONLY show on television that I CANNOT miss (daytime or nighttime) . I'll admit it ..... I'm addicted. But I always tell people, "there are worse things to be addicted to", and no one has ever disagreed with that! To me, AMC is like pizza. Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good. This was a very eventful week starting out with Ryan learning the truth about Colby's paternity. It seems like more and more people find out about it every day. At this point, everyone in town seems to know the truth except the entire Martin family. Something tells me they're about to find out real soon though. Maybe even this week. From the coming attractions, It looks like Tad overhears something while hiding in the background. Jake and Gillian's wedding finally happened, with a momentary upset caused by Ryan. He looked like he was about to spill his guts about Colby in front of everyone, but, much to Adam's chagrin, he didn't blurt. Poor Ryan. You had to feel for him this week. He really put his heart and soul into his pleas to Gillian. And he finally used the "L" word. Good show Ryan, but unfortunately, too little. too late for Gillian. Personally, I don't know how she could refuse that face anything. I always loved Gillian and Ryan together. No one burned up the screen like they did. Of course we all know that they still love each other, but Gillian feels very pulled in Jake's direction. He's a great guy. And so normal. He was terrific to her when she was recuperating from her accident too. And now that Colby's custody is being disputed, he really needs her. That is so seductive to Gillian. No one has ever needed her like this before, and she likes it. This whole business with Colby's custody is mind-boggling to me though. I don't understand how someone as smart and savvy as Liza can think that the truth will never come out about who the real father is. Especially with Adam involved in it. I don't know how Liza can allow this charade to go on any longer, and actually let Jake sue for full custody. Is she so bent on keeping the truth covered up that she would risk loosing her daughter? Ever since Colby's paternity has become such a hot issue, I've had this little scenario tickling my brain. Wouldn't it just be the ultimate "last laugh" if Dr. Allison Doyle (remember her?) pulled a double-cross on Adam and really didn't switch the sperm samples after all. That would mean that Jake really is Colby's biological father, and Adam would be out in the cold. Wouldn't that be the perfect way to tie this storyline up in a nice neat bow? Too bad we already know that Michael Lowry (Jake) wants out and will be leaving soon. Meanwhile Janet is definitely inhabiting that other planet lately. She finds a letter actually meant for her but sent to Brooke for security purposes. She jumps to the conclusion that Brooke is having an affair with Trevor. When she realizes how foolish she was, she apologizes to Brooke, but it looks like Brooke is not real convinced of Janet's stability. She wants Janet to see a shrink, but Janet cancels her appointment. I have to say that I am really disappointed that the writers couldn't come up with anything a little more original for this character. I know I'm in the minority, but I have never been a big fan of mirror Janet anyway. Robin Mattson is a terrific actress and does an admirable job, but surely they could have found another way for her to chew a little scenery without resorting to old and already used plot lines. Myrtle's mysterious trip to the Fannie Battle Home for Unwed Mothers was very unclear until it was revealed that the file she stuffed into her purse was labeled "Myrtle Lum", which of course used to be Myrtle's name. Perhaps Myrtle has a child out there somewhere too. I wonder who it could be? Rae is so relentless in her search for her daughter. Linda Dano portrays her so intensely, that her pain is palpable. And the scenes where she puts on her therapist's hat are wonderful too. I really wish they would make this character a permanent one in Pine Valley. Does everyone else out there want to scratch Greenlee's eyes out as much as I do? She certainly has been doing her best to thwart any possibility that Gillian and Ryan might get back together. It's such a shame that she is so insecure about herself that she has to resort to plotting and planning and playing games with other people's lives. She attaches herself to her latest prey like a barnacle (first Scott and now Ryan) and won't let go. If she would just realize that she is attractive and intelligent, and could be desirable to someone for those things, she would be better off. In the long run, her schemes always seem to backfire on her anyway. I was really happy to see Becca verbally giving some back to Greenlee this week. Becca you go girl. Bad things are about to happen to Marian. Her perfect world is about to be invaded by Adam in the form of Leo and his slimy friend Paolo. It's hard for me to believe that Adam never learns that his schemes just don't work. Hopefully Marian will prove once and for all that she really has changed. I just loved that scene in the bar when Alex grabbed David by the back of the neck after overhearing him spout off about her to the bartender. It brought back images of early Star Trek episodes when Mr. Spock would simply pinch someone's shoulder and they would go down like a rag doll. Serves David right. Even though he has been showing his soft side with Erica lately, we shouldn't forget that he's basically still a bad guy. Next week looks quite promising, with Edmund and Alex sharing a kiss. Isn't it great to see Edmund coming to life again. He's been the walking dead since Maria's death, and now that he has Alex to deal with, he's back. He's such a good guy, that he almost needs a damsel in distress in order to survive. I would love to see a strong loving relationship develop between Alex and Edmund. And just when they have declared their undying love for each other, Dimitri comes walking back in, fully recovered and wanting his bride and his life back! Wouldn't that be an interesting twist? Well that's it for my first column AMC fans. I hope to hear from you if you have anything you want to share with me. You can write to me directly at Alexistarr@Yahoo.com
