Everyone's all over Black Clover's ending, and it's causing a lot of sadder-than-usual reactions on social media. Yuki Tabata's decade-long saga about a magic-less boy chasing the impossible dream just leaked its penultimate moments, and the reaction mirrors a funeral more than a celebration.
History repeats itself with brutal precision in the manga industry. Back in September 2024, Jujutsu Kaisen ended with many holes in the plot that could fit Shibuya. My Hero Academia followed two months prior, watching Deku's dream shatter like All Might's legacy. Now, with just two chapters left before it ends, here's where Black Clover meets a similar fate to both Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia.

Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen ended with its final arc being incredibly rushed in pace, and left a lot of open storylines. The biggest issue was that the author did not properly end the Merger storyline and did not give much recognition for the major deaths that happened, such as Gojo’s death
My Hero Academia by Kohei Horikoshi followed shortly after in August 2024. After ten years in Weekly Shonen Jump, the ending of My Hero Academia has disappointed many fans, the biggest issue being that Deku loses his powers & does not make it to number one hero status.
Black Clover's Rushed Super Climax
Black Clover is facing this same problem. The manga transitioned to Jump Giga and moved its quarterly release schedule while allowing for larger chapters, but resulting in far less story progress. Three new leaks, Chapters 387- 389, reveal that the showdown with Lucius Zogratis will soon come to a close.

The chapters describe a time when Yuno and Asta synchronised their powers to take on Lucius. Together, they have managed to penetrate his defences, and there was a resurgence of Julius Novachrono's presence within Lucius' body.
The last Chapter 389 demonstrates that Julius, before his last moment as Wizard King, had planned for the revival of all the people who perished during the battle against him.
The execution definitely feels rushed and unfinished as we still have so many unanswered questions. Readers still don't know Lucius's origins beyond his connection to the Zogratis Family. The mystery of how he became paralyzed or ended up in the Clover Kingdom remains unsolved.
And most importantly: what about the origins of Astaroth? The Time Devil, who gave his powers to Julius. This question has not been explained at all.
The Wizard King Selection Left Hanging

Asta and Yuno are rivals throughout the series in Black Clover for the Wizard King title. The competition between them has pushed the series from Chapter 1 onward. They both developed at the same time and encouraged each other by challenging each other's limits, but were always true friends.
After Julius dies in chapter 389, it raises the question of what's next? We don’t find out how this will be resolved from the leaks, and some fans are left wondering if there will even be a new Wizard King?
My Hero Academia faced similar criticism when Deku didn't become the number one hero in the epilogue. This was a disappointing move for many fans, which caused a huge amount of backlash against the show. I feel that Black Clover could be making the same mistake.
Conclusion
Black Clover stands at a crossroads. While the Super Climax portion of the series seems to point toward a conclusion, it hasn't been the best way to wrap everything up. With just two more chapters left and so many loose ends still to tie up, this series looks like it may end up in the same place as Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia, where fans will be unsure about how things finished.
It’s hard to say if the last few chapters of Black Clover will do what the critics said they would. Maybe Tabata really nailed it with those last chapters, or maybe the anime version will take the manga version of the ending to a whole new level.
