With the latest chapters of mangaka Yuki Tabata’s Black Clover series, fans saw primary antagonist Lucius Zogratis cut down Asta and his Devil partner Liebe. While the issue confirmed that the pair was still alive, it also clearly put them out of the fight for the time being. This likewise leaves Yuno Grinberryall to take on the self-proclaimed Wizard Emperor alone.
However, Asta and Liebe did continue to provide support in the form of giving Yuno both Anti-Magic and the Demon-Dweller Sword to wield. This made for an iconic final panel, which saw Yuno’s Spirit Dive having combined with Asta’s Anti-Magic. While his left side maintained his typical Wind Magic form, his entire right side was now cloaked in black Anti-Magic.

This included his already incredibly powerful Star Magic, evidenced by the Anti-Magic soaked clusters of it behind him. Needless to say, Black Clover fans are expecting this to be one of Yuno’s strongest forms in the series yet, and one of the manga’s strongest overall. However, the scene’s full context has also led many to wonder if this is a major death flag for him.
Certainly, the introduction of such a powerful form combined with Yuno now being the only one to stand against a full-power Lucius would suggest this. Contrarily, Yuno’s role as one of the series’ two main protagonists should offer some insurance in the form of plot armor. While each argument makes good points, there is one route which stands out as more likely.
Yuno is unlikely to die in the coming chapters of Black Clover given his role and status
As of this article’s writing, it seems more likely than not that Yuno will survive through the end of the Black Clover story. While speculative, there is more evidence to suggest this being the likely outcome than there is for his death. As mentioned above, the single-biggest reason why his survival seems so likely is his status as one of the series’ main protagonists.
There’s also the fact that Yuno is either constantly pushing himself to new heights and limits to avoid certain death, or is able to avoid it otherwise. His very origins highlight this, having escaped the Zogratis family’s usurpation of the Spade Kingdom as a baby. His fight with Zenon Zogratis also highlights his ability to awaken new powers at just the right time.

Likewise, the fact that he’s clearly being given Anti-Magic and the Demon-Dweller Sword in Black Clover chapter 380 falls into this trope. On the other hand, Yuno has essentially taken in Asta’s powers while also losing the advantage of two-versus-one. While both raise good points, Yuno’s creative application of Anti-Magic to his own abilities will likely make up for this deficit.
There’s also the fact that Yuno is Asta’s rival, a plot point which is the foundation of the series’ overarching narrative. Were Yuno to die in this final arc, it would leave a bad taste in fans’ mouths since their rivalry is essentially left unfinished. Even if Asta were to survive and become Wizard King, it’d be difficult to say he achieved victory over Yuno in their rivalry given his death.
Final thoughts
With all of this in mind, it seems more likely than not that Yuno’s newest, presumably incredibly powerful in Black Clover is not a death flag. When considering his character development and role in the series, there’s simply too much evidence suggesting otherwise. Although it’s still possible Yuno dies at Lucius’ hands, currently available information suggests otherwise.
