Following the release of chapter 204 of mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man earlier this week, virtually all fans are talking about the Fire Devil. This is largely due to the issue marking the first time the Fire Devil has debuted in their true form in the series thus far. Likewise, fans are desperate to learn everything they can about the Fire Devil following this reveal.
Unfortunately, one of the biggest questions surrounding the Fire Devil is still unknown: who their late human host was. Thankfully, chapter 204 seemingly sets this up to be revealed with chapter 205’s official release on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. However, as of this article’s writing, most fans agree that Seigi Akoku seems to be the most likely option for various reasons.

As for what fans do know about the Fire Devil, the most significant and relevant detail is their antagonistic status. More accurately, they can be considered a major antagonist for the manga’s second part, also known as the Academy Saga. They can also be considered an overarching antagonist due to the role they play and their being a pawn of the Death Devil.
While this may seem contradictory to their recent debut, the Fire Devil has played a large role in Part 2 by masquerading as the Justice Devil. Whenever a character contracted with the Justice Devil, they were in fact contracting with the Fire Devil. Thus, characters who contracted with them include the Chainsaw Man Church members, Yuko, and others.
The Fire Devil’s powers and abilities in Chainsaw Man, explained
As a Devil, the Fire Devil possesses all of the standard Devil abilities seen in Chainsaw Man. This includes the ability to make contracts with humans. While it uniquely seemed not to ask for something in exchange from the humans it contracted with, this isn’t truly the case. Barem Bridge’s words in chapter 146 suggest that the price of the contract is one’s humanity.
Likewise, the Fire Devil’s main power is to grant others the ability to transform according to what they most deeply desire. Given its false identity as the Justice Devil, many of its contractees and their forms reflect a desire for justice or to do good. Barem claimed that these forms were initially monstrous, but later began taking a form similar to that of the series' titular hero.

Barem clarified that this was due to the Fire Devil’s power growing as it entered into more contracts. This also highlights a seemingly unique ability the Fire Devil possesses, referred to as “Collective Empowerment.” Likewise, with the Fire Devil having entered into over 350,000 confirmed contracts via the Chainsaw Man Church, it can be assumed that it is incredibly powerful.
Despite how powerful the Fire Devil is due to its unique Collective Empowerment, its debut in chapter 204 characterizes it as calm and nonchalant. It even refuses Denji’s offer to fight, further muddying the waters in terms of its goals and ideals. At the very least, fans can assume it has no intention to oppose Denji as of this article’s writing.
In summation
The Fire Devil is still a largely unknown and unexplored character in Chainsaw Man; however, it can at least be confirmed that it is very powerful and a major antagonist in the second part. It also has the unique ability to grow stronger as it enters into more contracts with humans. Fans also know it as the so-called Justice Devil, whose name it borrowed to reach enigmatic ends.
