Blue Lock is the hottest sports series in recent history, fascinating fans with its intense games and egoistic characters. The story, centered around Yoichi Isagi, follows Project Blue Lock - a training program created by Jinpachi Ego for the sake of making Japan’s ultimate striker.
The anime’s first season displayed the various obstacles faced by the participants of this project as they aimed to manifest their egos. After the best players were selected, the second season showcased a battle between Team Blue Lock and the Japanese U-20 team for the sake of their survival. Blue Lock Season 3 has not been confirmed yet, but most fans are expecting a mid-late 2026 release for this sequel.
While season one of the anime was beloved by most fans, the second season was far more divisive due to its lacklustre animation. Nevertheless, a sudden rise in quality in the final episodes and its continued popularity guarantee that the series will continue having further installments.

In an interview, the Blue Lock anime producer Ryoya Arisawa also revealed that he believed the series would continue with the support of the fandom. While there has been no official confirmation of the third season yet, fans can expect it sooner rather than later. This is because the final episode of season 2 teased what was to come.
After the match between Team Blue Lock and the Japanese U-20 Team, a message indicated that Phase 1 of the project had officially concluded. When the characters were in a celebratory mood, Ego also reaffirmed his goal of creating one hero to lead Japan on the world stage. This showed that he was far from finished and that Project Blue Lock was only beginning.
The ending of the second season marked the start of the next phase of the project, the Neo Egoist League. Having received approval from all the stakeholders, Ego could finally move his project to a global level. Kunigami, who was believed to be eliminated, returned after training as a wild card.
Finally, the eye-catching Michael Kaiser appeared, expressing how he would make all of Blue Lock kneel. Hence, through this cliffhanger, it is apparent that the anime wishes to continue as soon as possible without taking a long break, which may be counterproductive and make fans lose interest.
The adapting studio, 8bit, also does not have a reputation for going on extended hiatuses, having handled anime such as That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and The Irregular at Magic High School. Given the gap of over one and a half years between seasons one and two, fans are naturally expecting the third season sometime around the middle to the end of 2026.
What will happen in Blue Lock Season 3?
As teased in the final anime episode, Blue Lock season 3 will feature the Neo Egoist League, the most exciting arc of the manga so far. This will be a league mirroring international competitions, where five top European football clubs send representatives to play and train along with Isagi and his friends.
As the main cast gets to select one of the five teams to play under, they will be mentored by world-class players such as Noel Noa and face off against each other in a round-robin tournament. In this set of matches that will be broadcast globally on BLTV, depending on the performance of players, teams can bid on them.
The amount that each character is valued at will determine their position in the Blue Lock Auction. By the end of the Neo Egoist League, the top 23 players in this auction will be selected for the Japanese U-20 team.

Hence, under an environment of relentless competition, Isagi will be forced to battle international prodigies and his own idol for the sake of becoming the best player in the world. The Neo Egoist League Arc will be exhilarating, heartbreaking, and leave an indelible mark on viewers.
Given that the Neo Egoist League recently ended in the manga, most fans are hoping that the anime will confirm its adaptation of the storyline soon. Since this is the longest arc in the source material, it will not be possible to animate it within the span of a three-month season. Hence, the sequel will either have to be split up into various courses or have over 24 episodes.
