Gege Akutami has released Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo as a spin-off series that takes place years after the main story ended. He has introduced new characters and a different plot altogether, but what fans really want to see is the old characters making a comeback. The story right now is set 68 years after the infamous Shinjuku Showdown, and the main characters are Tsurugi, Yuka (grandchildren of Yuta), Cross, and Maru.
But time and again, this series has shown us that the shadow of Yuji Itadori looms large. Recent chapters have finally given fans a glimpse into what became of the boy who once carried Sukuna, and the answer has reignited the fandom’s obsession. Because he is always shown to be mysterious, fans are wondering if Itadori is a fugitive in the story of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.

While the author has not given any clarity, according to glimpses of his character shown in this spin-off, chances are Yuji Itadori may not be a fugitive by law, but he exists as one in philosophy, a wandering spirit who defied systems. As a teenager, he had a cheerful personality, so while fans are holding onto that idea of him, maybe an old Itadori might have matured and become a serious person.
The first time Yuji made an appearance was in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 6, where the old cursed user recollects fighting against him. By the way he describes Yuji, it is clear that his character is an absolute legend and rightfully so. He is the student of Gojo Sataru, and he wanted to live a life his teacher taught him. After the showdown, the rules of the Jujutsu World might have changed, which made Yuji stay mysterious.
Mahito’s return confirms Yuji is still alive

Then came Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 7, where Mahito, one of the most hated villains in the world of JJK, reappears in a liminal afterlife realm. His haunting line, “Oh? Looks like you’re not him either,” is directed at Tsurugi, who nearly dies in battle. That cryptic remark shattered the fandom because it implies Mahito is waiting for someone, and the only person it could be is Yuji Itadori.
If Mahito had to meet him yet, he confirmed that he is alive and hiding somewhere. Moreover, in Chapter 10 of Modulo, we a line that says to find Itadori Yuji. It is because of this line that many fans might get an idea that he could be a fugitive, but for now, we have to wait for Gege Akutami to give us more lore behind him.
Additionally, having cleansed the world of countless reincarnated sorcerers, it is possible Yuji retreated from the public eye in the timeline of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, not as a coward, but as a man burdened by what his power demanded of him.
What comes next for Yuji in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo?

Yuji’s existence in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has transcended the boundaries of heroism and villainy. To cursed users, he was the executioner who could end them with a single punch. To ordinary humans, he was salvation incarnate. But to the Jujutsu Society, he may have been a destabilizing variable, too powerful, too independent, and too ungovernable.
That very independence might have led Yuji to become a symbolic fugitive, one whose ideals could not be contained by any institution. Until anything is confirmed, Yuji in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo remains both legend and ghost, a man who saved the world and then vanished from it.
