In the Naruto universe, many characters who might not be part of the main cast are still remembered due to their on-screen presence. Also, some are summoning creatures, as they are a key part of many ninja battles. While creatures like toads, slugs, and dogs are more popular, there is one summoning creature that exudes pure menace. And that is Manda.
He was the boss summon of the snakes of the Ryuchi Cave and a partner to Orochimaru in Naruto. Throughout the series, he made several appearances where he proved to be a formidable and frightening force.
Manda was the most powerful and colossal serpent of Ryuchi Cave, home to the White Snake Sage and the source of Orochimaru’s snake-based techniques. Unlike the Toads of Mount Myoboku or the Slugs of Shikkotsu Forest, the snakes of Ryuchi Cave are dark, cunning, and often hostile, even to their summoners.
Interestingly, Manda’s personality matched his powers. He was extremely arrogant, snobby, and outright selfish. In Naruto, he only chose to work for Orochimaru out of necessity, not to be mistaken for being loyal. Unlike other summons, he openly acted like a villain.

Once, he asked for a hundred sacrifices as payment for his assistance. This event is further testament to his deadly nature. In fact, he did not shy away from threatening Orochimaru whenever he was brought to fight a difficult battle.
During the search for the Tsunade arc, Manda was summoned to fight against Gamabunta and Katsuyu. He entered the fight in a grumpy mood, but then what happened next was a massive battle between three boss summons. However, the result of the battle was that Tsunade drove Gamabunta’s sword into Manda’s mouth, pinning him down.
Manda was not happy with the result of this battle and unwillingly left the fight. But then came the most tragic part of his story in the Itachi Pursuit Mission arc. He was summoned by Sasuke in the middle of the fight with Deidara and his C0 suicide bombs. Then, Sasuke took control of his mind under genjutsu to hide inside Manda’s mouth and teleported away.
However, he was caught in the middle of the blast. Though Manda’s body withstood the attack, the experience left him fatally wounded. He eventually died but cursed Sasuke for summoning and sacrificing him.
Manda’s abilities and powers in Naruto

Manda was known as the strongest colossal serpent (in Japanese, it was Saikyo no Uwabami). His abilities reflected both his physical prowess and his strategic cunning:
Incredible Speed and Reflexes: Despite his size, Manda was agile. He could swiftly dodge attacks, as seen when he evaded Katsuyu's offensive techniques.
Constriction Power: Manda’s massive body could crush opponents, including large summons like Katsuyu.
Shedding Skin Technique: He could shed his skin like Orochimaru to escape from dangerous situations, such as fire-based jutsu.
Burrowing and Stealth: Manda could travel underground and surprise enemies with sneak attacks.
Durability: Even Deidara’s C0 suicide bomb in Naruto couldn't completely destroy his body, although it ultimately led to his death.
Intimidation: His mere gaze was enough to scare other summoned animals, like Gamakichi, showing his infamous reputation.
To sum it up, Manda is the strongest snake and worked with Orochimaru in Naruto. In this series, his character was a symbol of raw, untamed power. During his time in the anime, Manda proved himself to be one of the most fearsome creatures. He is feared by many because of the combination of his deadly abilities with his anger issues. Ultimately, he was killed by Sasuke Uchiha. Although even after Manda’s death, the legacy persisted through genetic cloning and folklore in the shinobi world.
