The One Piece manga is currently in the Elbaph flashback, exploring the turbulent history of the island and the reign of King Harald. One of the most notable elements of the latest chapters is the deep dive into the Accursed Prince, Loki.

As an immensely complex character and a significant figure in the current arc, fans have been desperate to know more about this Giant. Since the One Piece manga is currently on a break week, this is a good time for readers to revisit Loki’s backstory and get a sense of what to expect in the future.

Starting from One Piece chapter 1153, set 63 years in the past, Loki was born to King Harald and Estrid at Aurust Castle. Unfortunately, ever since then, his life has been a series of tragedies that have evoked deep sympathy from fans and brought them emotionally closer to him.

Loki’s tragic past in One Piece

As mentioned, Loki was born to Estrid while his father, Harald, was on an expedition. Right after birth, however, his mother was horrified by his slit-eyes and horns. Believing her son to be monstrous, she immediately cast him into the Underworld with the intention of killing him. Estrid also told her guards to inform the king that their child had been stillborn.

However, baby Loki survived the fall and climbed his way back up the Treasure Tree Adam, even killing the monsters on his path. Soon after, his mother fell ill and deliriously kept commanding those around her to kill him, insisting that if they didn't, then he would one day kill Harald.

As Loki continued to grow, Estrid’s proclamation that he was a curse caught on, and a famine in Elbaph was immediately linked to the child. Even when the prince wished to embrace his mother, he was rejected and carried away, as Estrid kept warning that the nation would be ruined if his eyes weren’t destroyed.

Elbaph’s internal tensions were eventually solved by Harald thanks to his newfound alliances, but Loki was considered a curse by both his mother and the island. Estrid ended up dying due to her illness, holding firm in her belief that Loki was a curse until her final breath.

When Loki was just a few months old, the guards wrapped his eyes in bandages and told Harald he had a disease. He was considered to be the reason for Estrid’s death and rarely smiled. Unfortunately, Loki’s life went from bad to worse as Estrid’s brother became his caretaker and constantly abused him.

However, during his childhood, his uncle was found dead in the Underworld, bringing a smile to the boy’s face. Shaped by his upbringing and loneliness, Loki began acting out for the sake of attention. Forty-eight years before the current timeline, he led beasts from the Underworld to destroy villages and even beat up his brother, Hajrudin.

At the same time, this was merely a facade, as the hole in Loki’s heart only became deeper once he saw that the other children trusted and relied on Hajrudin. Devastated, he tried committing suicide by jumping into the Underworld, but survived, much to his disappointment.

Right then, Loki met the Rocks Pirates and their captain, Xebec, for the first time. Initially, Loki was angered by the tiny human’s arrogant attitude. However, he was soon attacked by Xebec for the sake of luring Harald back to Elbaph. Though Loki was pleasantly surprised that his father had actually returned, he refused to believe it was because of his injuries.

The Accursed Prince’s life changed from that point, as he snuck out of his bed and listened in on Xebec’s conversation with Harald, in which the pirate outlined his plan to overthrow the World Government and become the king of the world. This impressed the young Giant, after which he began idolizing Xebec.

What can fans expect to learn about Loki in the coming One Piece chapters?

Although the Elbaph flashback in One Piece has officially covered only up to Loki’s initial encounter with Rocks D. Xebec, there have already been several hints at the other events that occurred in the Giant’s life. Hence, if the coming chapters continue to focus on Loki, fans can expect to see these moments unfold.

Firstly, Loki will likely persistently request to be let into the Rocks Pirates, only to be rejected. This will mirror Luffy’s experience with Shanks. However, the Giant will have a harsher ending, as Xebec will brutally beat him up. Following this, Loki's life will only grow more tragic when he falls in love with Lola but is dumped by her.

The Big Mom Pirates will also try fooling him by replacing his fiancée with her twin sister, earning the ire of both the prince and the Giants. Finally, Loki’s flashback will conclude by featuring the shocking truth behind Harald’s death, where the king is killed by his own soldiers, and the prince is framed for his murder.

While on the run, the exciting battle between Loki and Shanks will be showcased, revealing whether the Giant really lost against the red-haired pirate or if there were any other circumstances at play.

Therefore, although the coming chapters in One Piece may be delayed due to the break week, they are expected to highlight key details about Loki’s life, setting the stage for the Accursed Prince’s main role in the narrative and a potential partnership with the Straw Hat Pirates.
