One Piece needs to bring the ancient weapons into play, and no, it's not Shirahoshi

As One Piece has stated its Final Saga, it feels as if the stakes in this story are at their peak. The story is teetering on the edge of a world-shattering climax, and for all the power struggles, devil fruit awakenings, and revolutionary sparks flying across the seas, there remains one mystery largely unexplored: the ancient weapons.

As far as I remember, they were first introduced during the Alabasta arc, but then we got nothing till the Fishman Island arc. It was finally when I saw one come to light in the form of Shirahoshi, Poseidon. But here is my take when it comes to ancient weapons, I believe that One Piece absolutely needs to bring the ancient weapons into play now, and no, I’m not talking about Shirahoshi.

In my opinion, the spotlight must shift to Pluton and Uranus, and the time is ripe for them to finally take center stage. Especially now that Blackbeard is actively planning his next move. Even if we set him aside, the story has already entered its Final Saga. We’re beyond the build-up phase. We need pieces to move, lines to be drawn, and ancient legacies to reawaken.

After Eiichiro Oda took his time to build this amazing narrative, I feel that if he chooses not to bring them into active play, now would be a disservice to the groundwork laid since Alabasta.

I have been following One Piece for years religiously, and there is one character whom I totally believe could be one of the final bosses. It is not Imu, but Blackbeard. And to be taken seriously, he needs to be more than a Devil Fruit collector.

Also, with the knowledge Oda has given about him to fans like me, Blackbeard is no ordinary villain. Additionally, with the Yami Yami no Mi and the Gura Gura no Mi, he’s already absurdly overpowered. But just having a devil fruit or haki would not be enough to counter Luffy’s Gear 5.

I think if he gets his hands on Pluton, his threat level would significantly increase. Given the current developments, I think Blackbeard heading to Elbaph is inevitable. If the theories are correct and Blackbeard kills Prince Loki to take his Devil Fruit (which many speculate is a perfect counter to Luffy’s Nika powers), that would give him the ultimate counterbalance.

So, one thing is for sure. To achieve such a feat, Blackbeard needs to represent the weaponization of history. The idea is that knowledge, power, and violence can shape the world in your image. And this would be the exact opposite of Luffy’s freedom.

Why Poseidon (Shirahoshi) is no longer the priority currently in One Piece

While, technically, we know that Shirahoshi is Poseidon in One Piece, the weapon that can command the Sea Kings. She’s a living, breathing ancient weapon, but she’s not usable in the traditional sense. And with how the story has unfolded so far, she undoubtedly is powerful, but her powers are not something we can use in a battle. To me, Shirahoshi’s role was always more symbolic than tactical.

She represents the potential to either save or destroy the world, depending on who tries to use her. That kind of power needs protecting, not unleashing. Narratively, her arc feels like it’s already wrapped up.

With how Oda writes his story, I would be a fool not to consider the smallest possibility of making a reappearance. And if she ever does, I think it’ll be in response to something massive, like the world literally being torn apart, because she is not the type to charge into battle like a marine admiral. She could be seen more as a last resort.

In conclusion, I feel that the time for passive lore is over, as One Piece has picked up its pace and is heading straight towards the climax. Therefore, ancient weapons can no longer remain a myth. If Luffy is Joy Boy reborn in One Piece, then his enemies must also echo the sins of the past, of power, control, and destruction.

Whether it's Blackbeard unearthing Pluton, manipulating the Seraphim, or acquiring a mythical Devil Fruit in Elbaph, his rise must be terrifying. But for now, we can wait and see which path Oda takes in deciding the fate of the story to come.
