The All-devouring Whale: Homecoming is an immensely popular anime, or donghua, that has gained the reputation of being the Chinese Pokémon. The series stunned fans with its initial episodes, which featured jaw-dropping animation, but the quality declined soon after.
Thankfully, the recent episodes have seen a resurgence, and the story has finally begun to pick up steam. The All-devouring Whale episode 5 features the Lingxiao Pavilion taking part in the D-class assessment test in a bid to restore the sect's status. It highlights the series’ fascinating world-building while delving into the protagonist’s identity.
The All-devouring Whale follows Fan Lingxiao, a talented spirit pet master and leader of the Lingxiao Pavilion, who faces an untimely death at the hands of his own whale. However, he is then reincarnated into the body of a man named Liu Fengmang and discovers that his sect has nearly been destroyed by enemies due to his absence.

Determined not to abandon those he holds dear and to elevate the status of the place he considers home, Fengmang returns to the Lingxiao Pavilion and contributes to its growth. In the fourth episode of The All-devouring Whale, Fengmang took the first steps towards his revenge, as he defeated Yo Yang, a leader of a branch of the Ease Sect.
This was a group responsible for the Lingxiao Pavilion’s downfall. The episode ended on a cliffhanger, with the Pavilion’s new leader, Gu Ling, questioning whether Fengmang was her previous mentor, Fan Lingxiao.
The All-devouring Whale episode 5 summary
The fifth episode begins with Fengmang facing a difficult situation where his identity is questioned. Wishing not to reveal the truth, he shifted the topic by expressing how he was a lecherous person, only for the sect members to intervene and tie him up in a comedic sequence.
Nevertheless, Gu Ling continued to trust Fengmang, and the sect prepared to take part in the D-rank assessment competition, which would help re-establish their status. After training, they departed for the examination center, where the other local sects would gather.
Right after reaching, however, the Lingxiao Pavilion faced immediate discrimination from several plain sects, even being threatened to drop out by their enemies. With eight teams gathered at the location, only three would move forward to the next round, and the examiner allowed them to decide amongst themselves.
Just as groups began teaming up to oppose the Lingxiao Pavilion, Fengmang discovered that some of the sects present had robbed them during their times of struggle. Not tolerating the traitors any longer, Fengmang and the other members immediately engaged in battle. Despite being underestimated, they easily defeated their opponents using their spirit beasts.
After thoroughly beating them up, Fengmang ordered the other sects to prepare three times the amount they had stolen from his pavilion, which they readily accepted. After the chaos, only three sects were left - the Lingxiao Pavilion, the Wan’gu Gate, and the Baimu Study, which Su Muchuan was part of.
Following this, the groups were transported to the competition’s island by flying Cat Eagles. After reaching, they were given bracelets from a pet named Consonance, which would allow examiners to track their real-time information.
The examiners then left, and the competition's start was announced by none other than the Bai Family, who had imprisoned Fengmang as a lecher after his reincarnation. As the D-class assessment began, the Lingxiao Pavilion soon found themselves on the back of a giant turtle.

Competing against sects from all over the nation, the first phase challenging the main cast involved them picking up light spores, each of which would give them a point. With 500 spores up for grabs, Fengmang deduced that they would need more than 20 spores to beat their competition.
Though they had a concrete plan and split up, the competition was soon filled with more drama than expected. On one end of the island, Sheng Liao, a member of the Beckon Society from the Ease Sect, revealed his deadly parasite-type spirit beast and started fatally attacking his competitors.
Meanwhile, Fengmang ran into members of the Hongluan Building, with whom he had a troubled past. The episode ends on yet another cliffhanger, as Gu Ling runs into Duan Ye, a former member of the Lingxiao Pavilion, who is now part of another sect.
The All-devouring Whale episode 5 primarily served to build up the events set to unfold in the coming installments. Each member of the main cast is facing troubles of their own, with Fengmang confronting enemies tied to his new identity, and Gu Ling facing off against a treasured peer.
As a result, fans can expect exhilarating battles, heartbreaking reunions, and exciting revelations in the next few episodes of the All-devouring Whale.
