The All-devouring Whale episode 8 recap

After the chaotic individual adventures of the members of the Lingxiao Pavilion, the All-devouring Whale episode 8 begins by seeing them reuniting, joined by Su Muchuan and Jiang Rou’er. Soon after exchanging pleasantries, Gu Ling speaks of her experience with Duan Ye and Heimi.

She explains how Duan Ye has changed loyalties, and his once adorable cat has visibly changed, seeming like a zombie. This instantly reminds Fengmang of his whale, which looked like a rotten corpse right before killing him when he was Lingxiao.

Though curious and suspicious of the Rakshas Sect that Duan Ye belonged to, he decides to restrain himself and focus on the task at hand. Following this, Lingxiao Pavilion enacts a plan where they lure in nearby sects using fake spores, after which they capture their members and steal their real spores.

While celebrating their victory after successfully tricking the Youtoo Sect, they are taken by surprise when the Baneful Gu Sect takes Jiang Rou’er hostage, threatening to kill her if the Lingxiao Pavilion doesn’t hand over their bracelets. Although they had no apparent ties, Fengmang concedes, negotiating a price of 9 spores to free Rou'er.

The leader of the Baneful Gu Sect agrees, though stating that he’d only set her free after reaching a safe distance. A short time after they leave, an announcement of Jiang Rouer’s sect, the Hongluan Building, being eliminated is made. Thinking he had been betrayed, Fengmang seems determined to kill the remaining members of the Baneful Gu Sect are left behind to monitor him.

At that point, another announcement reveals that the Baneful Gu Sect has been terminated as well. When everyone seems unsure of what is happening, Fengmang runs after Rou’er and catches up to her, though she is alone and seems carefree.

A flashback then reveals Rou’er’s ingenious plan during her captivity, where she enchants her captor with her spirit pet, Foxie. Since a team that attacked a surrendered candidate would automatically be eliminated, Rou’er then yields and forces the antagonist to lightly hit her.

This causes the elimination of the entire Baneful Gu Sect, having fallen prey to the schemes of the Hongluan Building. Pleased that Fengmang has shown his care for her, Rou’er then leaves the field on a Cat Eagle, her love for the protagonist growing ever stronger.

Right after, the Lingxiao Pavilion collects the bracelets they had won and decides on a fair split with Muchuan. A short while later, the second phase of the test is announced to have ended, and the results are revealed to the entire island. The Beckon Society placed first, followed by the Lingxiao Pavilion and the Rakshas Sect in second and third.

The second phase then officially concludes, and participants are made aware of the beginning of the final phase. In this, the surrender mechanism is removed, which makes the competition deadlier than ever. Additionally, the turtle-island begins sinking, with water rising rapidly.

Since prolonged periods of being submerged would lead to the elimination of participants, all the remaining sects are forced to meet at the same arena. Sensing that the assessment has become more dangerous, the main cast summons their pets and quickly sets off.

Shortly after, they encounter Duan Ye, Heimi, and the rest of the Rakshas Sect. As the fated rivals exchange their animosity, Fengmang is suddenly dragged into the water by a mysterious creature. Realizing that he is on a time limit, he throws his bracelet to Muchuan, explaining that he’d return in three minutes.

The episode ends with Fengmang underwater, where he is faced by a terrifying octopus spirit pet, which also seems to have been zombified. However, Muchuan looks more excited than intimidated as he believes his spiritual catfish can evolve to the next stage through the battle.
