The Bold and the Beautiful has cast Matthew Atkinson (ex-Austin Travers, The Young and the Restless) as its new Thomas Forrester.

The Bold and the Beautiful has been on the hunt for an actor to take over the role of Thomas Forrester, and they didn't have to look too far from home to find the lucky performer: Matthew Atkinson, who played Austin Travers on B&B's sister soap, The Young and the Restless, has taken on the role.

Soap Opera Digest reports that the Georgia native has signed on to the role most previously played by Pierson Fodé and will first air on Thursday, March 14, 2019.

"It was actually a long time coming," Atkinson reveals of stepping into Thomas' shoes. "I remember this role coming around a few years ago. When it came around this time, [having worked at Y&R], I knew everyone there. I had met Brad [Bell, executive producer/head writer] before, and I couldn't say no ... There's something very comforting now about being back in the same building."

The caveat to the casting call for Thomas was that only actors with strong credits needed apply, meaning the character will likely be back to being front and center once he returns to the canvas this spring. As for what's coming down the pipeline, Thomas' return is rumored to throw a wrench in the relationship between Sally (Courtney Hope) and Wyatt (Darin Brooks), who got together after Thomas left town. Time will tell whether or not that will be the case.

Atkinson played the role of Y&R's Austin beginning in early 2014. He was upgraded to contract status later that year, and ultimately released from the show in 2015. His other credits include Powerless, Young & Hungry, The Middle, and One Tree Hill.
