Many fans expect a last-minute cure that will keep Liam a part of our favorite fictional L.A. fashion scene for years to come, but it's very possible the soap can surprise us.

A case of deja vu on The Bold and the Beautiful?

While many viewers have likened Liam's plight to Eric Forrester's mystery illness at the end of 2023. Like Liam, Eric didn't want his family to know he had been given a fatal diagnosis. However, Finn (Tanner Novlan) and Bridget (Ashley Jones) swooped in and saved Eric in the nick of time. Today, Eric is happy and healthy, living his best life with his wife, Donna (Jennifer Gareis).

During a recent interview with Michael Fairman, Scott Clifton was very careful not to give away the story's ending, but he did admit that he wasn't playing out another version of Eric's tale, noting that doing the same story would result in a "cry wolf effect."

"I don't want to repeat John McCook's wonderful story from last year. I don't think you guys want to see a do-over of that wonderful story," Clifton said. "I think that would be the easy way out."

Clifton acknowledged that he hadn't worked much in well over a year and explained that Executive Producer and Head Writer Bradley Bell wasn't sure what kind of story to tell, as Liam had already exhausted the love triangle trope The Bold and the Beautiful does so well. After years of waffling back and forth between Hope (Annika Noelle) and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), the story had become stale. However, a few months ago, the actor had a meeting with Bell and learned what would happen to Liam next.

"'I'm gonna work you again, but here's the story," Clifton said of what Bell told him. "I can't tell you where the rest of that conversation went, but I know where this is going," Clifton said, before adding, "Bradley Bell is not *&$%ing around. I'll put it that way."

A different kind of love story for Liam

During the video interview, fans sent in comments and questions. One fan hopes that this story leads to Liam and Hope marrying again. Hope recently learned that Liam was dying and told him that she wanted to be with him and repair their little family with their daughter, Beth. However, Clifton stressed that B&B is not telling a romantic love story for Liam and Hope.

"Just from everything I can tell from reading the tea leaves and reading the scripts and conversations with some of the writers, this story is not about that," Clifton explained. "This is not a romantic love story. This is a different kind of love story. It's about grief. It's about loving people after you're gone. How can I continue to love you when I don't exist anymore?"

When Fairman mentioned Stephanie Forrester's death after Susan Flannery chose to retire in 2012, Clifton said he is happy with the story being told and being able to take Liam on a similar journey that would be emotionally satisfying for fans.

"It is more important to me to tell a complete story — with a beginning, middle, and an end — and have closure, than it is for me to keep playing Liam. And I can't say more than that."
