Deacon supports Deke’s fresh start
Deke banked his entire future on the idea that he’d become the lead designer of Hope for the Future. Despite earning his conditional hire on his own merit, Deke was never given the opportunity to succeed at Forrester. He was dropped from the line before the collection ever fully came together. Thomas waltzed back into his family’s company and reclaimed his spot as the lead, and Deke was unceremoniously ousted.
Despite Thomas having more extensive knowledge of the ins and outs of Hope’s line, Deke offered a fresher and newer approach that the company could’ve capitalized on. Instead, Forrester allowed nepotism to hinder its future. On Monday's episode, Deacon puts Deke to work after he was ousted at Forrester. It's great that Deke has a father who is willing to help him out, but there are several reasons why this isn't a good fit for the aspiring designer.
First, his passion is the creative arts, and he won't feel fulfilled at Il Giardino. It's just not his avenue. Deacon has made the restaurant a resounding success, but that doesn't mean it's for everyone. Second, working at the restaurant will place Deke in close quarters with Sheila, something he actively avoids. He doesn't approve of his father's marriage, and Sheila isn't one to let things go. She is still bitter about being left off Hope and Liam's wedding guest list, and her allergy to boundaries will make it difficult for Deke to escape her insufferability.
Bill and Katie's romantic escape
Also on Monday, Bill takes Katie on a real date, which could prove to be the best possible thing for both Katie and the restaurant’s newest employee. For Deke, the restaurant floor might offer one thing Forrester Creations didn't: visibility. With a new fashion house owner, Katie expected to drop by for her date with Bill, Deke’s 'temporary' job might actually be the most important interview of his life.
