Brief Character History
Anita Dupree is a former successful recording artist who rose out of her humble beginnings in the projects of Chicago. Anita met her husband, Vernon Dupree, at a civil rights demonstration in the 1970s and stepped out of the limelight to support him when he became a United States Senator. Anita raised two daughters, Dani Dupree and Nicole Dupree, in the affluent gated community of Fairmont Crest in Maryland, where she became a highly respected socialite.
Anita worried when Dani refused to let go of her ex-husband, Bill Hamilton, who was slated to marry his mistress, Hayley Lawson. But Anita's worries doubled when Bill pressured her and Vernon into having the family attend the ceremony; Anita feared that their presence would put in jeopardy the secret the elder Duprees were keeping about their grandson, Congressman Martin Richardson.
