Days of our Lives youngsters Rachel Black and Thomas DiMera came into conflict when the former gave the latter some news that made him very unhappy this week. For nailing what it must be like to be children who are caught up in family lies, Soap Central is bestowing Performer of the Week honors on Rachel and Thomas's respective performers, Alice Halsey and Cary Christopher.

During the blackout on Days of our Lives, Thomas and Rachel wound up in the safety of the Horton home, where they were watched over by Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes). The family matriarch suggested that the youngsters play Monopoly to help pass the time until the power returned.

As the board game progressed, Rachel demanded the "get out of jail free" card as she was likely thinking of her mother, Kristen (Stacy Haiduk), who is currently incarcerated for shooting EJ (Dan Feurregiel). Julie acted as referee and then went off to make some popcorn, leaving the youngsters alone.

Soon, Thomas called Rachel out for not acknowledging that she landed on his property and owed him some fake money. That prompted Rachel to throw in Thomas's face a hard truth -- his dad, Chad (Billy Flynn), had a new girlfriend in Cat (Annalynne McCord).

We could see the hurt look on Thomas's face as Christopher tried to hide his character's pain. "They're just friends," Thomas insisted. "Nobody kisses their friends like that," insisted Rachel as she embodied her heritage as a true DiMera!

Christopher played Thomas's denial by maintaining that his father insisted that he and Cat were just pals. "Then, I guess he lied," Rachel gleefully stated. While Halsey is going to star as Laura Ingalls in a Little House on the Prairie revival, her performance as Rachel has us thinking she could easily embody Nellie Oleson!

Rachel twisted the knife by informing Thomas that Cat had once pretended to be "your dead mother." Ouch. Christopher brought great vulnerability to his role as Thomas in these scenes, as his character was unaware of why Rachel was being so mean to him.

Later in the week, Christopher's character tugged on our heartstrings again when Chad asked his son for a hug. Thomas shot back, "Not right now," not with a bratty tone, but one of genuine hurt. Asked by his dad if his tummy was hurting him, a vulnerable Thomas replied that it was his heart that was in discomfort, as his father had told him Cat was just a friend.

We've seen young actors thrown into adult situations on soaps all the time. Rarely do performers like Christopher and Halsey come along, who are total pros while never letting viewers forget that they're still children, trying to find a way to navigate life alongside their complicated relatives.
