On Days of our Lives today, Monday, September 29, 2025, the blackout continues to inflame tensions and passions in Salem.
What Happened on Days of our Lives

In EJ’s secret lab, a panicked Gwen tried in vain to get the door open. Just as she gave up and uttered that no one cared, she heard someone calling from outside. It was Leo, armed with a flashlight. Gwen realized her former friend was on the other side of the door when he asked, “Guinevere, is that you?” Gwen quickly explained her predicament to “Matty” and demanded he force the door open.
After making a crack about his lack of “brute strength,” Leo uselessly strained against the door for a moment. As Leo announced he was leaving to fetch help, Gwen pleaded with him not to leave her alone. Leo found a crowbar and tried it on the door, then decided to slam it against the wall instead. That approach worked, and a large hole soon formed in the wall. Leo peered inside and saw Gwen, who exclaimed that Leo had done it.
“I did it,” Leo marveled, lightly comparing himself to the Incredible Hulk before continuing hammering at the wall. He eventually extricated Gwen from the room. Once freed, Gwen hugged Leo in relief, but pushed him away when she realized what she was doing. She returned to her icy demeanor and snapped at Leo about taking so long and about why he was there. Leo said he’d gotten a tip that the blackout had originated where they were.
Gwen recalled EJ wanting to pay off the electrician to keep quiet about the lab’s “enhanced electrical needs” and seemed to conclude that EJ had indeed indirectly caused the blackout. Leo turned the question back on Gwen and asked why she was there. She made up a story about EJ wanting her to invest in the free clinic. According to Gwen, EJ had shown her the site but had disappeared to run an errand. While Leo was skeptical at first, the explanation did seem to satisfy him.
Leo offered to escort Gwen off the premises with his flashlight. She flatly rejected the offer and began to berate him again about Dimitri. Leo cut her off and made an impassioned declaration about how much he regretted destroying one of the few meaningful relationships in his life. While he knew Gwen couldn’t forgive him, he wanted to at least help her in that moment. Reluctantly, Gwen conceded and let Leo lead the way.
In the hospital elevator, EJ groaned in frustration as Belle preoccupied herself with a game on her phone. The battery began to die, so Belle decided to sleep instead. She threw back EJ’s offering of his jacket as a makeshift pillow. Belle angrily told EJ that she didn’t ever need anything from him again. The exes traded barbs about their current circumstances and about EJ cutting costs at the hospital, which Belle blamed for the elevator stalling.
EJ challenged Belle to stop arguing and to communicate “like two human beings who used to be in love.” He caught her off guard when he added, “Or, in my case, one who still is.” Belle dismissed EJ love as “convenient” and only evident in certain times and places. EJ apologized for what he had done during Johnny’s trial. Belle retorted that she “deeply, deeply” regretted giving EJ her love and her trust. She stopped mid-rant, coughed, and pulled an inhaler from her bag.
EJ got concerned, but Belle said she’d had asthma all her life – a revelation that surprised EJ. She blamed EJ for the flareup, too...specifically, his stifling cologne. After Belle’s symptoms abated, she calmed and broached the topic of John’s will. EJ pledged he would honor John’s wishes and sign whatever Belle wanted to cement his plans for the donation in writing.
Noting Belle’s skepticism, EJ admitted that he respected John and everything the man had given the town. “Most importantly, for me anyway….his wonderful daughter; he had you,” EJ added with a longing glance to Belle. She tried to brush off the statement by stating she wanted to get some sleep. This time, she accepted EJ’s offer of his jacket.
At Marlena’s place, Marlena was roused from her couch by knocking at the door. After she answered, Susan let herself inside and began rambling about the blackout. Before Marlena could get a word in, Susan told her friend how “relieved” she was to see her and gave Marlena a big hug. When Marlena and Susan settled on the couch, Marlena worried her new guest by revealing that she had passed out. Marlena wondered if Susan had been right about her being “very sick.”
Susan was flattered that Marlena seemed to believe her but couldn’t provide any further insight other than Marlena being “unwell in mind, body, and soul.” Susan credited her old friend Celeste with helping her develop her powers, although Susan didn’t always know exactly what her premonitions meant.
Susan changed the subject to Johnny’s acquittal. While she was relieved that her grandson had been cleared, Susan couldn’t understand why her “vibes” hadn’t picked up on Kristen’s guilt. Eager to get off that particular subject, Marlena inquired what Susan had been doing before she had arrived. Marlena’s eyes widened when Susan breezily responded that she had been “hanging out at the graveyard.” Susan said she’d visited the area for her training as a medium.
Susan also stated that she believed her previous assertions about Stefan being alive were off-track. Marlena breathed a sigh of relief, then confided that she had been dreaming about Stefano. “I’m just afraid that I –” When Marlena failed to finish the thought, Susan supplied, “Are you worried that you’re possessed again?” Marlena claimed that the thought hadn’t crossed her mind. The dreams nagged at her.
Susan reassured Marlena that Stefano would not be visiting her that night…because Susan intended to stay with her until “the lights come up.” Marlena smiled in gratitude.
At the Horton house, a frazzled Julie updated Chad over the phone about Thomas, Rachel, and Charlotte’s play date. When she ended the call, Thomas and Rachel raced into the darkened room and declared they were “bored.” Julie was relieved when she found a Monopoly game to distract the kids. She got another call -- this time from Foster -- who apparently had distressing news. After Julie got off the phone the second time, the kids asked what was wrong.
Julie told Thomas and Rachel about some break-ins that were occurring at Horton Town Square stores during the blackout. Foster had been concerned about someone possibly stealing money from the bookstore’s cash register. Later, an argument arose between Thomas and Rachel after Rachel tried to snatch away Thomas’ “Get Out of Jail” card. Julie intervened and scolded Thomas for being a “poor winner.” She ordered Thomas to hand the card over to Rachel, who smirked with satisfaction.
Julie left the kids alone to make popcorn, the old-fashioned way, in the kitchen. While she was gone, another fight broke out when Thomas accused Rachel of cheating in the game. Rachel retaliated by making a snarky comment about Thomas’ dad lying to him about a new “girlfriend.” Thomas questioned what Rachel meant, and his cousin was all too happy to fill Thomas in on Chad’s kiss with Cat at the mini golf course. Thomas refuted that his dad had told him Cat and he were only friends.
With a sneer, Rachel shot back that Thomas’ dad had been lying. She added that Cat must have “rubbed off” on him. Thomas was more confused than ever. Rachel dealt him another blow when she clarified to Thomas about Cat: “She pretended to be your dead mother.”
At Cat’s place, Chad and Cat filled each other in on their respective family members’ plans for the night. Although they couldn’t get any work done because of the blackout, both looked forward to spending some alone time together. They busied themselves at first with a trivia game. Chad was impressed with Cat’s knowledge about obscure subjects, and it piqued his curiosity about her. Cat called herself a “history buff” who had traveled a lot when she was younger.
When Chad jokingly mentioned Cat’s recent brushes with drama, Cat grew serious and noted the accident had marked a turning point in her life. Chad apologized for bringing up the situation with Clyde again and urged Cat to stop blaming herself for it. He believed they should both move past it and affirmed that being with her made him happier than he had been in a long time. Chad sealed his affirmation with a kiss.
Later, Cat brought Chad the only snacks she had managed to find on-hand: licorice and peanut butter. Chad grudgingly admitted the combination wasn’t bad, and Cat compared the unlikely match to Chad and herself. The flirtatious banter led to another kiss, which got more heated.
Cat pulled back and asked Chad if he was sure. Chad responded by deepening the kiss. Clothes came off, and the couple fell back onto the couch in a steamy embrace.
