At Abe and Paulina’s place, Abe finished setting up an appointment for his first tutoring session. Theo entered as Abe ended the call and asked his dad if Abe had decided to proceed with the tutoring despite Paulina’s objections. Abe said he’d made his decision…just like Theo had when he had dismissed Abe’s reservations about DiMera Enterprises. Theo defended his choice to accept the job as CEO – a revelation that stopped Abe in his tracks.

Theo pitched to Abe that taking the top position at DiMera could be an opportunity for him to change the company rather than the company changing him. Abe got another shock when Theo let it slip that Paulina had encouraged him to consider the job. Theo grew frustrated when Abe implied Paulina had pushed him to accept Tony’s offer and insisted that his stepmother had only told him to make his own decision.

At the bookstore, Johnny met with Chanel, who updated her husband on her deal with Julie to provide pastries and coffee for bookstore customers. The topic of conversation soon turned to Sophia, who had been ghosting Johnny’s repeated attempts to contact her. Chanel bemoaned how the whole crisis would likely prevent them from adopting Tesoro. Just then, Paulina showed up and urged her daughter not to lose hope yet.

Paulina filled Johnny and Chanel in on her talk with the child protective services representatives, who had agreed to look into the source of the allegations against Johnny. The news did indeed give the couple renewed hope. Chanel was still eager to find Sophia, though, and to “drag” the girl down to social services for a full confession.

Later, Paulina arrived home amidst the tense standoff between Abe and Theo, and her smile quickly faded. Theo turned to Paulina and said he’d told Abe about the job offer and Paulina’s encouragement, then he added, “Now he’s pissed at both of us.”

Paulina was caught off-guard that Theo would be “running the whole damn company.” She absorbed the revelation, then offered a hearty “Congratulations, baby!” with a big grin and a hug for Theo. Abe silently glared at the exchange. When Theo brought up the possibility of living somewhere else to ease tensions, Abe roared “Absolutely not!” after Theo suggested the DiMera mansion as a possible new home.

Paulina urged Theo to stay, while Abe asked his son for a moment alone with Paulina. Theo obliged and took his leave. Abe immediately lashed out at Paulina, but she defended that Abe was overreacting and should be proud instead of judgmental. Theo had made his choice, and Paulina believed in his capability to excel at the job.

Abe backed off and apologized to Paulina. He opened up about the way the DiMera family had at one time warped Lexie into someone he didn’t “recognize.” He asserted that Theo’s mom would be “rolling over in her grave” at the prospect of her son entering the DiMera fold.

At the dorms, Holly reunited with an overjoyed Arianna in their room. Ari got all the details on Tate’s “romantic” gesture, and Holly said her mom was “disappointed” but ultimately understood Holly’s decision to stay. Ari pledged to her roomie that Holly would not have to face the disciplinary committee alone, and the friends hugged. Ari apologized for inadvertently helping Sophia spread the lie about Tate, but Holly put all the blame on Sophia. She then revealed the true depth of Sophia’s deception to Ari.

Ari’s eyes widened as she processed the news that Sophia had set up Holly with the compromising photos, that Tesoro – the baby staying with Ari’s family – was Sophia’s child, and that Tate was not the father of said child. Ari wondered about the identity of the father, and Holly said no one could ask because Sophia was nowhere to be found. Ari reassured Holly that even though Sophia was her friend, she would not defend Sophia’s actions. Holly vowed to make the “lying bitch” pay.

Back at the bookstore, Johnny called Amy Choi and confirmed the woman did not know her daughter’s location. Chanel suggested Johnny and she pay a visit to Sophia’s house in the event the girl was hiding out at home. The trip ultimately came up empty, and Johnny and Chanel later made their way to Horton Town Square, unsure of their next steps. They encountered Ari, who commiserated with them about the recent developments. Ari commented that “half the town is on the hunt for Sophia Choi.”

In Melinda’s office, a panicked Sophia raced onto the scene and fretted to Melinda about how everything was “falling apart.” In a rush, she filled Melinda in on all the dirty details of her plan for revenge on Holly and Johnny. But instead of blowing up their lives, Sophia had inadvertently “blown up” her own life. Melinda chastised Sophia and kept her anger in check as she listened…until Sophia got to the part where Holly had nearly died in a fire. Then, the lawyer challenged her young client on whether Sophia had actually wished harm to Holly.

Sophia emphatically claimed she was glad Holly hadn’t been hurt. Melinda quickly moved into “damage control” mode, which Sophia confessed might be too late since people already suspected her of the photo texts. As she lamented the chaos around her, Sophia reluctantly confided that she had found out Tate wasn’t her baby’s father on top of it all. She stammered that she’d truly believed Tate was the dad, but her doctor had confronted her about a DNA test that revealed otherwise. Sophia confirmed with Melinda that Sarah could not disclose the information.

Melinda compelled Sophia to come clean on her own because too many people knew about her lies. Sophia got angry and accused Melinda of turning on her. Melinda insisted she was only worried about Sophia and that she cared about what happened to her. Sophia closed off, however, and told Melinda that she’d handle things herself. She instructed Melinda to forget the conversation and walked out the door as Melinda called after her.

Sophia returned home in a whole new level of panic. As she spiraled, she got an unwelcome call from her mom, who had wanted to check in since Sophia was supposedly home “sick.” Sophia fake-coughed and told her mom she was okay. Her panic increased when she learned that Johnny had been the one to call her mom.

After that call, Sophia received a call from Melinda but ignored it. She began hurriedly packing, then gave her room one final glance before she headed out the door…and presumably out of Salem.

At the Brady Pub, Aaron approached Tate as the latter waited tables. Aaron wondered what had kept Tate from class, and Tate revealed he’d been at the airport with Holly. After hearing all the lies Sophia had told Tate about the adoption, Aaron couldn’t believe it. He seemed even more stunned when Tate revealed the biggest lie of all: he was not the father of Sophia’s baby.

Tate called himself a fool for failing to question Sophia’s claim. A distracted Aaron tried to reassure him, then asked if Tate knew the identity of the father. In response to Tate’s “your guess is as good as mine,” Aaron paused and then said, “I have a pretty good one, actually.” When Tate pressed him on who he thought the father was, Aaron nervously replied, “Me.”

Tate recovered from his shock and blasted Aaron for never telling him about a hook-up with Sophia. Aaron argued it hadn’t been just a “hook up” for him because he’d had real feelings for Sophia. He explained that he’d texted Sophia when he’d found out about the baby and asked her if he could be the father. Sophia had apparently assured him there was no possibility. Since he’d been dealing with his mother’s troubles at the time, Aaron had willingly taken Sophia’s word for it.

Aaron hopefully pondered that perhaps neither Tate nor he was the father. Tate acknowledged the possibility but also reminded Aaron of the strong probability that Aaron was the father. Aaron teared up as he mused, “I could be the dad.” He apologized to Tate for not speaking up about Sophia sooner.

Tate settled down and said he didn’t blame Aaron. He hugged his friend and promised they were good. Holly’s arrival disrupted the conversation. She was soon the latest to be looped in on Aaron’s potential newfound status as a dad.

Holly couldn’t believe the number of lives Sophia had upended. She stressed the need for her former BFF to be held accountable for her actions.
