JJ wandered around Horton Town Square, thinking about his run-in with Theo during the blackout. He also remembered when he tried to kill him self after shooting Theo several years back. When Jada called, he told her that he had seen the police psychologist and insisted he would continue with therapy.

Upstairs at the Horton house, Thomas still claimed he felt sick, so Chad allowed him to stay home for just one day. When Chad called Thomas "Buddy," Thomas insisted he wasn't his dad's buddy anymore. Chad told Thomas he was sorry his son learned about him dating Cat via Rachel blabbing the news. He had wanted to talk to Thomas himself.

In the Horton living room, Julie approached Jennifer and interrupted her thoughts with some coffee. Jennifer admitted she didn't sleep much the night before, knowing that Jennifer was now dating Cat Greene. "The fact that he is actually in a relationship with her is actually the worst kind of betrayal," Jennifer said.

She didn't even have it in her to interview Julie about their grandfather. Julie told Jennifer that she'd called for some "back-up" to make Jennifer happier. Just then, Jack appeared behind them, prompting Jennifer to run into his arms. Jack said he caught to the first flight to Salem as soon as Julie had called and told him what happened.

Chad walked into the room and announced he was going to make things right, as he had promised Thomas. He promptly left to go see Cat. Julie turned the subject back to telling Tom Horton's story in The Spectator. Jennifer said she had just realized it had been 40 years since he moved home to Salem as a teenager. "Boy, did I cause a lot of trouble when I first got here," Jennifer said.

She flashed back to some of her first moments in Salem when a teenage Jennifer stole several things that didn't belong to her. "I was a hot mess," Jennifer admitted before recalling a meal at Shenanigans with Tom and Alice. Young Jennifer was not happy at her new high school. "All the boys like and all the girls hate me because they think I'm trying to steal their boyfriends," Jennifer lamented.

Julie brought out an old scrapbook to help Jennifer write her story. That prompted more memories for Jennifer. She recalled how Tom and Alice would talk to her about forgiveness. She wanted to try to forgive Cat, but she knew she could never do it.

Jennifer then proceeded with her interview, in which Julie told her all about Tom's hobby, poetry writing. They even found a handwritten poem in the scrapbook, one that Tom wrote about after Bill and Laura divorced. Jennifer also recalled Alice telling her to tell Frankie Brady how she felt about him.

Jennifer said that everything that happened when she was in high school led her to her soulmate. Jack then recalled Jennifer's first weeks working at The Spectator. "You knew you wanted to be a writer and you had the confidence that you could do it," Jack said. He wanted her to write an exposé on Emilio Ramirez, whom she was dating at the time. Jennifer also recalled when she admitted her feelings for Jack.

Jack then remembered proposing to Jennifer in the rain. Then came one of Jack and Jennifer's most famous moments — when he kidnapped her on the back of a firetruck to stop her from marrying Emilio. Several more Jack and Jennifer flashbacks followed, including when they were stranded after the Cruise of Deception, as well as their first wedding.

When JJ arrived home, Jack and Jennifer recalled the moment they decided to name their son JJ. Jack said he wasn't sure about naming their son after him, "But you, my son, do the name proud." He even praised JJ's police work.

In her apartment, Cat received a text from Chad, telling her that they needed to talk. When Chad arrived, he told her what had happened with Thomas. Cat felt awful that Thomas found out about her and Chad the way that he did. Cat tried to hide her tears as she told Chad that she understood why they couldn't be together. "You have to put your kids first," she said.

Chad said he hoped that Thomas would come around one day, but he didn't want Cat to put his life on hold waiting for him. "But I'm not sure that day will ever come," he admitted. "I'm grateful I got to know the woman you are. You're beautiful, Cat," Chad said.

He wanted her to remember the good parts of their relationship, not the awful way their relationship began. Chad gave Cat a passionate kiss goodbye and told her how much he cared. When he left her apartment, Cat broke down in tears.

Back at the Horton house, Chad arrived home in time with Charlotte as Thomas to join them all in the living room. They were happy to see their grandfather. Thomas said he wished he could have met his namesake, Tom Horton. Jennifer pulled both kids in for a hug, as the family
