Days of our Lives Spoilers, July 9: Danger alert for Marlena?

Marlena (Deidre Hall) has been doing her best to move on with her life after losing her husband and partner of 40 years. The grief comes in waves and overwhelms her at times, but she forges on and tries not to think about her own health, which seems to be going downhill.

Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) didn't find anything particularly wrong with Marlena, but Belle (Martha Madison) is alarmed when her mother seems unsteady on her feet. Belle expresses her concerns to her mother, who turns defensive and cold. Marlena already lost her temper with Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) last week. Would she really lose her temper with her own daughter?

Usually, Marlena is cool, collected, and level-headed, but something is clearly wrong, which leaves Belle a bit panicked. Will Marlena listen to Belle's concerns or will she brush her off? It's clear that Marlena knows that something is a bit off, but she is determined to keep a stiff upper lip and get through it. Since this is Salem, whatever is wrong with Marlena could be otherworldly...

Leo's past catches up with him

After a chance meeting with Gwen (Emily O'Brien) in Horton Town Square, Leo (Greg Rikaart) has a whole lot of explaining to do — to his boyfriend. Javi (Al Calderon) is curious about the animosity he sees between Gwen an Leo and wants the scoop.

Leo is forced to explain his very checkered past, including the fact that his name is not actually Leo. In fact, it is Matthew, which is why Gwen calls him Matty. Leo has to tell Javi all about his affair with Dimitri (Peter Porte), which he carried on while Dimitri was married to Gwen, his childhood friend.

Javi's past seems much more low-key and altruistic. He was a well-meaning EMT, while Leo was a crook and a con, who is just reforming his ways now with the love of a good man. Will Javi be able to accept the old Leo, knowing that the new Leo is indeed a work in progress? Perhaps Leo's love for little Tesoro will prove he has truly changed.
