Days of our Lives Spoilers, June 3: Salem is devastated by John Black's death

What to expect on Days of our Lives

John Black (Drake Hogestyn) finally breathed his last breath just as Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) opened his eyes for the first time in two years, proving that John's (the late Drake Hogestyn) last heroic act was not in vain. One hero died to save another, and Salem will never be the same.

News of John's death spreads throughout Salem, and all the way to Hope (Kristian Alfonso), Shawn (Brandon Beemer), and Ciara (Victoria Konefal) in Bo's hospital room beyond Salem. Marlena (Deidre Hall) has to try to compose herself and go on, but she just walks into her bedroom to look around. She sits down on the bed he shared with her beloved husband and hugs a framed photo to her chest before lying down in bed to cry.

Kayla is tasked with delivering the news to friends and extended family, including Roman (Josh Taylor) and Kate (Lauren Koslow). John had been an honorary Brady for decades, and news of his death devastates everyone who ever knew and loved him.

Marlena knows she has to find a way to go on, to do things on her own, and live a life that she never even imagined.

Before the storm

Brady (Eric Martsolf) appears not to know that his father has passed when he meets with Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) to discuss Rachel's (Alice Halsey) problems. Rachel is still a mess, and Kristen doesn't know what to do to console her child. She hopes that Brady can help if she keeps him informed about what's been going on.

Kristen is set to confide in Brady, but she already told him that Rachel saw Johnny with a gun on the night EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) was shot. Does she tell Brady more about her conversation with EJ? She believes EJ is hiding something, and it's more than just her mother's whereabouts.

Kristen and Brady are not sure what to do for Rachel, but they are about to get the worst news of their lives, meaning they are going to have to be there for Rachel and each other when they learn that John has died.
