Days of our Lives Spoilers, May 26: Can Kayla save John in time for family to arrive?

Marlena (Deidre Hall) is beside herself when John (the late Drake Hogestyn) suddenly codes, but Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) springs into action and does her best to revive him so that the family can say goodbye. Marlena is a doctor and knows from John's burns that she needs to start making phone calls.

After all Marlena did to try to bring John home safe, she realizes she is going to lose him to his instincts to always be a hero. Steve (Stephen Nichols) feels guilt for calling John into the mess at the meth lab as soon as he arrived back in Salem. However, he knew his old friend would have wanted to help. Steve wants to make sure that everyone knows John is a hero till the end.

Meanwhile, John's kids, Paul (Christopher Sean), Belle (Martha Madison), and Brady (Eric Martsolf), wait at home for news. They reminisce about their father and pray that he survives, but they know it might be time to finally say goodbye.

Maggie's fury

When Xander (Paul Telfer) returns to the Kiriakis mansion, Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) takes him to task for what he did to Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) and defends her daughter and her decisions. She is not going to let Xander bring Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) down or fight her for Victoria. Maggie tells Xander that she will do everything she can to protect her granddaughter, leaving Xander to wonder if Maggie is threatening him.

Maggie had always been on Xander's side, even when Sarah wasn't. She took a liking to Xander years ago when he told her about growing up with an alcoholic mother. Now, it's war between Xander and Sarah — and war between Xander and Maggie.

Will Maggie even tell Xander that she also knew about the forged letter and advised Sarah not to tell her loose-cannon husband? Xander is learning he can no longer trust people, but Sarah and Maggie now know they can't trust Xander not to become violent.
