Daniel Cosgrove nabs tough role in new Lifetime series

Soap opera alum Daniel Cosgrove has landed a recurring role in Lifetime's new psychological thriller You, and it's probably not like anything you'd imagine.

Soap opera favorite Daniel Cosgrove has kept television screens across the country lively with standout performances on daytime dramas like Days of our Lives (ex-Aiden Jennings), All My Children (ex-Scott Chandler), As the World Turns (ex-Scott Hughes) and Guiding Light (ex-Bill Lewis). And he's no doubt going to stun in his new role, as well.

The Connecticut native has been cast as a recurring character in Lifetime's new psychological thriller drama You, reports Deadline.

Based on Caroline Kepnes' novel of the same name, and written by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble, You is a 21st century love story that asks what a person will do for love. When a brilliant bookstore manager named Joe (Penn Badgley) crosses paths with an aspiring writer named Beck (Elizabeth Lail), the answer is clear: Joe will do anything for love.

"Using the internet and social media as his tools to gather the most intimate of details and get close to her, a charming and awkward crush quickly becomes obsession as he quietly and strategically removes every obstacle -- and person -- in his way," the outlet states. "Beck finds common ground with Joe as a fellow book lover but she has no idea about the surveillance that Joe has mounted, obsessively peering into every facet of her life."

Cosgrove fits into the story as Ron, a parole officer who's not only Joe's neighbor but also the drunken and abusive stepfather to a boy named Paco (Luca Padovan) -- which is a far cry from the roles the actor usually played in daytime.

"You is the most twisted love story ever," says Liz Gateley, EVP and Head of Programming for Lifetime. "A romantic thriller centered around a relationship between two people that gets taken too far, the series explores the line between passion and obsession. In the amazingly talented hands of Greg and Sera, we know this project will be special."

After leaving DAYS in 2016, Cosgrove went on to recur on Showtime's Billions. He also made guest appearances on Elementary and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
