Marci Miller worried her Days of our Lives return would be "discombobulating" for fans

Days of our Lives' Marci Miller says she was nervous about taking over the role of Abigail Deveraux from Kate Mansi again, as she thought the whiplash casting situation would be unfair to fans.

Days of our Lives fans have been looking forward to the return to Marci Miller since it leaked in June that she was stepping back into the role of Abigail Deveraux. But the actress says her return to Salem almost didn't happen.

As DAYS viewers know, Miller has once again taken over the role from her predecessor, Kate Mansi. The latter first played the role from 2011 to 2016, followed by Miller in the role from 2016 to 2018, after which Mansi returned from 2018 until the early part of 2020. With all the back-and-forth, Miller initially worried that her second return would be too much of a whirlwind, revolving-door situation for fans to handle.

"You never know how discombobulating it might be," Miller says in the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest. "That was one of the things I had to weigh in coming back, was whether or not it was fair to the fans for me to accept [the offer] because Kate hadn't been there for a very long stint. For them to do this flip-flop thing was a little bit of a concern of mine."

Fortunately, she set those reservations aside and decided to head back to Salem, anyway. And it's a good thing she did! As Miller points out, isn't it better to have Abigail back on the canvas than to not have her around at all?

Both Mansi and Miller have been nominated for Daytime Emmys for their work as Abigail, and in 2019, they were nominated at the same time -- Miller in the Outstanding Lead Actress category and Mansi in the Outstanding Guest Performer category. Mansi previously won the Emmy in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category for her work as Abigail in 2017.

How do you feel about Marci Miller's concern for fans as she weighed whether or not to return as DAYS' Abigail? Are you happy to have her back in the role of Jack and Jennifer's daughter? We want to hear from you -- and there are many ways you can share your thoughts.
