Find out what to expect when the Daytime Emmy Awards air on CBS this Friday -- including whether or not performer clips will be shown and who will be honored in the In Memoriam segment.
The Daytime Emmy Awards are returning to television this Friday, June 26, and it's going to be a ceremony for the books! Adam Sharp, the President and CEO of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), is opening up about what fans can expect from the ceremony when it airs on CBS at 8PM.
"The hosts, presenters, acceptors, even every member of the production team, [are] all spread out in different locations. That's a huge technical and creative challenge for an event used to being all in one room. But it is also an opportunity to celebrate the intimacy of daytime," he tells Soap Hub. "We are honoring television that you invite to your breakfast and dinner table, that you have in your home all day every day -- not just a once-a-year binge. Now the stars you love will be in your home, from their own homes. And that's really special."
Sharp says that the upcoming telecast will include an In Memoriam segment that honors The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful co-creator Lee Phillip Bell and other icons the daytime community has lost in the last year. It will also leave time to feature the nominees via clips from the performers' submission reels.
"Some award-show mainstays will be included, including clips of all the nominated performances," he says along with the reminder that extended clips were released earlier this month (which you can view here).
As for what fans can expect from the creative arts portion of the Emmy Awards (which typically includes behind-the-scenes categories like editing, lighting, casting, and hairstyling), Sharp says, "About 20 additional categories -- Drama crafts, in particular -- will be announced on our Twitter feed and Facebook page immediately after the telecast. Many others will be announced in a pair of digital ceremonies coming in July. Stay tuned for more on that."
The 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards is being produced by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI). The ceremony will air on Friday, June 26, on CBS from 8PM to 10PM ET.
As Soap Central previously announced, this year's awards show will be hosted by The Talk panelists Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood, Eve, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Marie Osmond.
Teases super soap fan Sheryl Underwood of the show, "I feel like we're throwing a virtual cookout with all our fans and colleagues in daytime across all networks, all platforms. We just happen to be throwing the cookout this time, so everybody come kick it with us over at CBS. I think it will be a lot of fun."
