The dark side of the Force awaits Star Wars fans as Darth Vader's lightsaber can now be their prized possession. According to the reports, it is heading to an auction from PropStore.
Darth Vader's character began his journey as Anakin Skywalker, wielding a blue-bladed lightsaber, which he used during the Clone Wars. Eventually, as the Sith Lord, he is known for wielding a crimson-bladed lightsaber while dueling with his adversaries in the fifth and sixth episodes, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, this lightsaber is set for auction with a pre-sale value of $1 million to $3 million. The said auction will reportedly take place in Los Angeles in September.
Here’s what you should know about Darth Vader's lightsaber that is up for auction
The item currently being auctioned was used on screen by English actor David Prowse, who played the menacing Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, apart from the stunt double, Bob Anderson. The said lightsaber was seen in the 1980 and 1983 sci-fi fantasy films, making it a treasured item from the franchise's history.
Per reports, it is the only hero lightsaber from the original trilogy to arrive for auction. It will be part of the upcoming Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, which, as aforementioned, will happen in LA.
The year also marks the 45th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980), which marks a call for celebration among the franchise fans.
After the update of the lightsaber's auction, Brandon Alinger (the Propstore COO) reportedly shared the following statement.
“Surviving genuine lightsaber props from the original trilogy of films are exceedingly rare, and Propstore is honored to present this historic artifact in our September sale. It is a grail-level piece, worthy of the finest collections in the world.”
Ahead of its auction in September, the beloved lightsaber will also be part of the PropStore tour throughout August. It will reportedly make rounds through New York, London, and Beverly Hills. Besides this item, the tour will also include the bullwhip and belt that Harrison Ford's character used in the third Indiana Jones movie.
Per reports, the Lord of the Rings fans can get to see Sauron’s helmet for The Fellowship of the Ring as well on this tour. A hero close-up neuralyzer that Will Smith used in the Men in Black movies will also be part of it.
The Darth Vader lightsaber is special to Star Wars fans as it represents the powerful and tragic antihero.

Since the inception of the Star Wars franchise by George Lucas, Darth Vader has been synonymous with the "dark side" for fans who grew up loving the franchise's imaginative projects. The lightsaber was key to the antihero's fights with his adversaries.
Its iconic design might be only one of the reasons for its wide appeal. Otherwise, the weapon is also seen as a symbol of a conflicted character, whose complexities continue to intrigue the fans.
