After dominating the box office, A Minecraft Movie is dominating streaming charts

A Minecraft Movie is still the second-biggest film of 2025 but hasn’t entered that $1 billion club. It dominated the box office following the release and currently sits with $954 million in its bag. Sadly, it’s not becoming the highest-grossing film based on a video game. Maybe that’s possible in a re-release. But currently, that title stays with The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023).

Anyway, the Jack Black and Jason Momoa movie has now found new grounds to dominate. It’s the most streamed movie on HBO Max on June 28, 2025, according to films and TV shows tracker FlixPatrol.

The film features four misfits who enter the Overworld, and they meet an expert crafter, Steve (Jack Black), as they navigate the world full of cubes. If you haven’t already seen the film, there’s a heartwarming tribute in it to one of the iconic Minecraft streamers.

As of this writing, the film holds 48% critics’ approval on Rotten Tomatoes and an 85% approval from the audiences.

There are a couple of options to stream the 2025 blockbuster, as it’s available on platforms including Prime Video and Hulu, other than HBO Max. If you already have a subscription to any of these, you can stream it now.

Additionally, A Minecraft Movie is available for rent on Amazon Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. You can rent it on these platforms plus Plex.

Although it’s based on a sandbox video game, which is also one of the greatest video games ever made, A Minecraft Movie follows the story of characters who find themselves in the cubicle world. This is the familiar setting we are used to in Minecraft.

They all have to work together while this evil piglin ruler, Malgosha, forces Steve to retrieve the Orb of Dominance, as she is keeping his dog, Dennis, captive. All of them have to get out of this world, but there are challenges awaiting them before they finally leave.

A Minecraft Movie is the most popular movie on the streaming platform today, but there are more films you can enjoy.

Robert de Niro's recent film, The Alto Knights, where he was on double duty as Frank Costello and Vito Genovese, is the second most popular movie today. Although it was a critical failure, fans liked it, as the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter show.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 is trending on HBO Max too. It doesn’t come as a surprise after how the live-action How to Train Your Dragon did justice to the original film and the fact that a sequel is already in development.
