Los Angeles rapper Blueface, whose real name is Johnathan Jamall Porter, recently appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast Club Shay Shay and opened up about his romances, relationship with his mother, prison time, and more.

On the December 24 episode, the Thotiana artist shared that over the years, his mom, Karlissa Saffold Harvey, tried to take control of his professional and personal lives, which in turn soured their bond.

Speaking about his food business, Blue’s Fish & Soul, the rapper said his mother tried to take out loans in the name of his business but later spent them on her lavish lifestyle.

“She had a couple of restaurants out in Ohio, so I'm thinking it's perfect. Family... She's taking out loans, credit cards in the business name without me knowing and approving. She's just hitting me with the debt. I owe nothing. You got to pay that. Then she got tired and quit on me. We're making $30K a month,” Blueface stated.

He also claimed that Karissa was often “too invested” in his relationships and messed them up before they got anywhere concrete. The 28-year-old claimed that his mom DMed his girlfriends sooner than they should know each other, which later led to public or social media fights.

“She just sabotages the relationship, every single one of them. She starts posting them, and they start caring what she thinks of them, because she’s my mom. But she just overwhelms them in the honeymoon phase,” Blueface added.

He also mentioned speaking to Karissa “a hundred times” about giving him space in his dating life and not being a “baddie.” However, it seemed to have gotten them nowhere yet.

Exploring other things Blueface discussed with Shannon Sharpe

On Wednesday, Blueface sat down with Shannon Sharpe and mentioned how he shouldn’t have been violent during the 2022 shooting incident outside of a strip club in Las Vegas, which got him a three-year probation.

However, when he violated the terms of the probation, he was sentenced to prison and spent nearly two years before being released in November this year.

About his legal drama, Blueface recalled that he only drew his gun because he felt like his “life was in danger.”

“I just did what I knew to do in that moment,” he defended himself.

Porter also shared that instead of firing, he and the victim should have had a “conversation” or even pulled out their “boxing gloves.”

It is noteworthy that Blueface has since apologized to the man during his recent livestream with DDG.

“I could have just had my a** in the house. I didn't have to go to the club that night, put my hands on that man, shoot him. I didn't have to shoot that man, [I could have] been at home. I'm sorry, brother. I didn't mean to shoot you, bro. If you seeing this, forgive me, man. This is a true apology,” he noted.

The hip-hop artist also spoke briefly about his prison fights, refusing protective custody, taking classes behind bars, getting special treatment for being a celebrity inmate, and his viral AI-generated prison photo.

Elsewhere, the Respect My Cryppin’ rapper spoke about quitting smoking and drinking recently to set the right example for his three children. He shares two of them with his ex, Jaidyn Alexis, and one with reality TV star Chrisean Rock.

Blueface and Chrisean had an on-and-off romance for three years before ending it in 2023. Their son, Chrisean Jesus Malone Jr, was born in September of that same year.

The rapper addressed his public feud with Rock while saying he still wanted to be part of his son’s life. When asked whether he would ever let his daughter date a man like him, Johnathan said:

“‘If your daughter was with a crackhead, you wouldn't try to get her away from him?’ My answer is no. I would try to get him off crack. I'm not going to risk me and my daughter's relationship if she loves this person. We all know how that's going to go. I'm not going to drive her away. I'm going to bring them closer.”

Having said that, he admitted to getting back together with several of his exes and his recent and back-to-back breakups with Hazel E and Nevaeh Akira and his new romance with Ashley, all in the span of two months, since his prison release.

Besides fatherhood, Blueface also spoke candidly about his sobriety journey so far, mental health battles, and the kind of artist/ man he wishes to become in the next three decades of his life.

About putting all his relationships out in the open, the rapper thinks it’s easier to know if any of his girlfriends were being unfaithful. He considers himself “high value” and thus wants to be aware of the past of his partners and vice versa.

“I put it out there. She can know what she wanna know.”

Blueface claimed it made it easier for him to commit to a woman if he knew the rappers she previously dated. In saying so, he said that he had an affair with Soulja Boy’s woman, who had no clue he was allegedly being cheated on, and he didn’t want to end up like him.

“I just did Soulja Boy like that. I can’t do that. He didn’t even know I f**ked his b*tch.”

Additionally, the rapper addressed the rumor that brands paid him to “skinvertise” for them, while also talking about his tattoos and thinking of getting one on his nose soon. Blueface also discussed being inked in prison and the tattoos he regrets.

The rapper said how an absentee father and family conflicts shaped his childhood, and that he missed out on a football career by dropping out of college, despite getting a scholarship.

Blueface acknowledged being part of the XXL 2019 Freshman list with the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Gunna, DaBaby, and others, and his significant collabs with Cardi B, Lil Baby, NLE Choppa, Kevin Gates, and Offset.

About his time on Cash Money West, important life lessons from Birdman, online feuds with other rappers such as Soulja Boy and Jake Paul, cosigns from Drake and Kendrick, lawsuits, investments, and making more money from his businesses, such as the King’s Crab seafood restaurant, Blueface’s recent interview was both raw and revealing in the truest sense.
