According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Venice Film Festival servers have suffered a cyberattack, which reportedly leaked the personal information of the accredited participants.
The publication notes that the leaked details from the data breach included names, email addresses, contact details, and tax data of this year's participants. It also comprises the members of the press who received accreditation for their designated section. The festival reportedly communicated this message through a notification.
Per the THR article, unknown individuals accessed the data from their servers on July 7, but the festival's IT team reportedly took prompt action. The publication reveals the festival's response, including the steps taken by the IT team, who
"intervened promptly, isolating the affected systems and securing them. The competent authorities were immediately informed, and restoration operations were initiated.”
Those concerned about this data breach were reportedly asked to communicate with [email protected] to learn further information in this regard.
Despite this issue, the festival team reportedly mentioned that it wouldn't impact payments or its booking and ticketing systems. The Venice Film Festival will kick off on August 27 and conclude this year's saga on September 9 in the Italian capital city. Like every other year, the 2025 line-up is filled with exciting indie and arthouse projects, along with buzzy Hollywood titles.
Exploring the lineup of the 2025 Venice Film Festival

The Venice Film Festival will resume its 82nd chapter this year and will include projects from different walks of life. If we're talking about Hollywood, everyone from Luca Guadagnino, Guillermo del Toro, and Yorgos Lanthimos to Kathryn Bigelow, Benny Safdie, and Noah Baumbach will bring their latest project to be screened at the festival.
Noah Baumbach arrives with a star-studded affair, Jay Kelly, headlined by a fascinating duo of George Clooney and Adam Sandler. The cast also includes his previous collaborators like Laura Dern and Greta Gerwig, besides stars like Riley Keough, Billy Crudup, Eve Hewson, Josh Hamilton, and Patrick Wilson, among others.
After last year's Queer, Luca Guadagnino returns to Venice with his latest, After The Hunt, a tense and morally complicated drama starring Ayo Edebiri, Julia Roberts, and Andrew Garfield. However, it will be screened in the Out of Competition category, unlike the Daniel Craig starrer, which competed for the Golden Lion.
Benny Safdie joins this year's lineup with his latest, The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt as the leading duo. It's his first solo directorial feature film after working with his brother, Josh, on Uncut Gems (2019), Good Times (2017), and Heaven Knows What (2014), among others.
In an earlier conversation with Deadline, the Venice Film Festival chief Alberto Barbera addressed a few queries related to this year's film selection. At the time, he also spoke about potential "Oscar hopefuls," saying,
"There are a lot of great performances and many films that will contend, you’ll see. Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson are fantastic in The Smashing Machine, for example. The [Kathryn] Bigelow is another amazing film. Guillermo [del Toro's] film, [Frankenstein], will probably be in contention…"
The Venice Film Festival will take place in Venice, Italy, between August 27 and September 9, 2025.
