Actress Demi Moore recently shared her memory of working with actor Tom Cruise on the 1992 film A Few Good Men. She said she was nearly eight months pregnant when the early reading of the film began. She feels that Cruise may have been embarrassed by her pregnancy during rehearsals. Moore says she felt okay but sensed that it made things a little awkward.
"I think Tom was quite embarrassed."
Moore spoke about this during a Q&A session at the New Yorker Festival on October 25, 2025. She explained that at that time Hollywood did not often show expectant mothers in major roles. She added that she wanted to prove that one could act, be pregnant, and work at the same time.
While Moore offered her view, Cruise’s side has not publicly responded in detail. So the idea that he felt "embarrassed" remains her perception, from Demi Moore's side.
The rehearsal moment and Demi Moore's memory
Demi Moore recalled that during pre-production, she and Cruise were doing line reads with director Rob Reiner for A Few Good Men. At that moment, she was carrying her daughter, Scout Willis. She said:
"I think Tom was quite embarrassed. I actually felt okay about it. I was moving around, though, right? But I could tell he felt that it was a bit awkward."
She added that part of the discomfort may have been due to the era. She said that not many of their peers were having children while working in major films at that time. Moore said,
"It's one of the many things, for me, that I just felt didn't make sense. And so I challenged that to say, you know, ‘Why not? Why can't you have both?’"
Demi Moore also said that she felt pressure on herself.
"But with that, I think, came a lot of pressure I put on myself to, in a sense, prove that it was possible."

She said she became "a bit of an overachiever" because she felt she had to show that pregnancy and a demanding acting role could work together.
"I look back at that time now, and I go, ‘What the f--- was I thinking?’ And what was I even trying to prove? But it wasn't as supported as it is today. You know, to be breastfeeding and then blocking and rehearsing a scene."
She also shared that she kept herself active while pregnant and even went on a hike and a 24-mile bike ride before the baby was born.
Demi Moore's pregnancy, acting, and Hollywood culture
A Few Good Men is a legal drama film directed by Rob Reiner and written by Aaron Sorkin. It stars Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, and Jack Nicholson, among others. Moore's view gives insight into how the film industry treated pregnant actresses at that time. She contrasted the then-environment with what she sees today, saying younger actresses now are more supported when they combine motherhood and career.

Her remarks also reflect on her own experience of trying to do it all. She said: "I look back at that time now, and I go, ‘What the f--- was I thinking?’ And what was I even trying to prove?" She pointed out that balancing breastfeeding, blocking scenes, and rehearsals was hardly supported then.
"I was going to be in a military uniform, and probably overly anticipated and started working out and trying to get in shape even before she was born."
The idea that Tom Cruise might have been embarrassed is Moore's impression. She did not cite any direct statement from him, nor did his representatives respond publicly in the referenced coverage.
Moore's reflection stands as a personal recollection of a moment where pregnancy, public image, and filming requirements intersected. Whether Cruise felt exactly the way she described cannot be confirmed publicly. But the story shines a light on an era when pregnant actresses in major films were rare.
She laughed while sharing how her pregnancy might have made things a little awkward for Tom Cruise, but said she felt fine about it herself. The actress spoke openly and with warmth at the New Yorker Festival, giving fans a rare look behind the scenes of a classic film.
