Quentin Tarantino fans are in a celebratory mood as Deadline published a report announcing that the auteur is returning to acting. While people might see Tarantino as a director of ultraviolent movies, very few might remember him as an actor, too. In addition to directing, Tarantino is also an actor who has collaborated with other filmmakers like Robert Rodriguez and Spike Lee, and has regularly cameoed in his own movies.

But it looks like Tarantino is back in front of the camera in a larger role, 29 years after appearing in 1996's From Dusk Till Dawn. This time, he is playing a key role in Only What We Carry, which is directed by Jamie Adams. Joining Quentin Tarantino are Simon Pegg, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lizzy McAlpine, Liam Hellmann, and Sofia Boutella. The movie is headlined by Simon Pegg's Julian Johns:

“A once-formidable instructor whose former student Charlotte Levant (Boutella) returns home to face the ghosts of her past. Joining them are John Percy (Tarantino), Julian’s old friend whose sudden arrival stirs long-buried truths; Josephine Chabrol (Gainsbourg), Charlotte’s protective sister; Vincent (Hellmann), a restless artist caught between love and loyalty, and Jacqueline (McAlpine), a young aspiring dancer whose presence forces everyone to confront the weight of what they’ve left behind.”

Explaining Quentin Tarantino's acting role in Only What We Carry?

In Only What We Carry, Quentin Tarantino plays Julian’s old friend, John Percy. The character has been described as a pivotal one, as Percy's role in the movie will bring out some long-buried truths in the movie. The Variety report also confirmed that the shoestring-budgeted movie wrapped up production in six days in the last week of September in Deauville, Normandy, France.

Confirming the project on Instagram, filmmaker Jamie Adams revealed that In Only What We Carry was his passion project:

“It’s always been a dream of mine to shoot an Eric Rohmer styled picture in Normandy, a dream that included collaborating with an exceptional international ensemble cast and crew. It turns out that by embracing the freedoms of independent cinema, that dream has come true. I’m forever grateful to the cast and crew of Only What We Carry for this moment.”

As of now, we don't have a release date for the Simon Pegg, Quentin Tarantino movie. While filming is complete, Adams is probably involved in Only What We Carry's post-production, which is probably set to continue for months. But Tarantino's inclusion in the cast should help the movie gain some attention when it releases.

Only What We Carry is Tarantino's large role since Robert Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn:

While Tarantino cameoed in his movies, his last major film role was 29 years ago in 1996's From Dusk till Dawn. The horror cult-classic is about outlaw sibling duo Seth and Richie Gecko, teaming up with their kidnapped hostage to survive a vampire attack. The synopsis for the classic reads:

"The Gecko brothers, two dangerous outlaws on a wild crime spree, kidnap a father and his two kids and head south to a seedy Mexican bar to hide out in safety. Soon they realize that they're not in a typical bar, as the entire place begins to teem with vicious, blood-sucking vampires. With the odds stacked greatly against them, the Geckos are forced to team up with their hostages in order to make it out alive."

Quentin Tarantino's return to acting has us all excited because the last time we saw him in a major role was almost three decades ago.
