Dylan Efron channels family bond with Zac and Olivia in emotional ‘DWTS’ performance

Zac Efron's younger brother, Dylan Efron, is one of the celebrity participants on Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) season 34. Dylan is a production coordinator, producer, and television personality. He has been partnered up with professional dancer Daniella Karagach. On Dedication night, the 33-year-old producer gave his siblings, Zac and Olivia, a shout-out.

The dancing pair performed to Rewrite the Stars, a song from Zac Efron's film, The Greatest Showman. Although the actor was not present in the ballroom, Dylan did get his little sister, Olivia, on stage.

A rehearsal footage revealed what Dylan Efron had to say about his brother and sister. He said:

"I'm dedicating this dance to my little sister, Olivia. I wasn't expecting to be a big brother … but immediately, I was inseparable from her... Now, being able to dance to 'Rewrite the Stars,' this is a nod to my brother... Zac’s always taken care of him and he did things that were so selfless. I wanna be that to Olivia, I wanna be the best role model I can."

Dylan and Daniella's performance on Dedication Night earned them a score of 36 out of 40.

How did Dylan Efron's family react to the news that he is joining DWTS?

Dylan Efron mentioned that dancing was something new for him and called it a challenge that he was excited to undertake. He told Us his initial reaction to being on DWTS, saying:

"I immediately was like, 'No way am I gonna do that.' Those are the things that you need to reflect on and be like, 'I'm saying no because I'm scared and I'm scared because this could be the best thing I've ever done."

He added:

"Stepping out of your comfort zone in that way is the best thing to do."

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Dylan shared his family's reaction to the news. He said:

"My dad is super excited... He has little kids, [ages] 4 and 5. They're all super excited. My mom was honestly just shocked. She's just like, 'Where'd this come from?' My brother is supportive."

He also shared what Zac told him before he started dancing on the show. Dylan said:

"He's like, 'The best part is going to be those live shows.' He was saying, like, it's such a good feeling."
