The man behind Evil Dead, Sam Raimi, in collaboration with Lionsgate, is gearing up to weave some 'magic'. As per the film company, a remake of the iconic cult horror of the 1970s, Magic, is planned to take place, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Released in 1978, the original film is helmed by Richard Attenborough. This psychological horror follows the plot of a lovelorn ventriloquist named Corky, who has a dummy named Fats. Whilst making his career in magic, Corky is striving hard to win the heart of Peggy, a woman he has loved since school.
Eventually, things take a murkier shift as Fats becomes a superego of Corky owing to his mental illness. So, the rest of the story looks into the duality and dilemma between the two minds of Corky, one of which is embodied by Corky himself, and another by Fats.

Sam Raimi and Lionsgate join together to bring back 'Magic is fun—we’re dead'
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate, in association with Sam Raimi, are together in the process of remaking the vintage horror classic, Magic.
It is revealed that Raimi, along with Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee, are joining hands to produce the film. Along with them joins Zainab Azizi from Raimi Productions, along with Tim Sullivan and Chris Hammond. For the role of executive producer, we have Andrew Childs from Vertigo Entertainment and Paul Fishkin.
Both Sam Raimi and Roy Lee have previously produced the horror film Poltergeist (2015). Zainab Azizi has previously co-produced films with Sam Raimi as well, including Umma (2022), 65 (2023), Don't Move (2024), and Locked (2025). Interestingly, as a trio, Lee, Azizi, and Raimi, have produced the 2023 film, Boy Kills World.
Also, Raimi and Lee have produced a number of acclaimed films in the horror genre. Raimi has produced films including The Grudge (2004), Boogeyman (2005), Don't Breathe (2016), and The Unholy (2021), to mention a few. Similarly, Lee has produced Dark Water (2005), Shutter (2008), The Echo (2008), Blair Witch (2016), It (2017), Late Night with the Devil (2023), Cobweb (2023), and the most recent release, Weapons (2025), to name a few.
For the forthcoming film, Sam Raimi is once again reuniting with writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who have penned Raimi's forthcoming survival horror, Send Help. It stars Rachel McAdams, Chris Pang, Dylan O'Brien, and many others. As per The Wrap, Lionsgate's Pavan Kalidindi and Meredith Wieck will supervise the film.
With such a power-packed group of creators, too, with the wizards in the genre of horror, we can certainly expect the upcoming remake will recreate the 'magic' of the OG film successfully. After all, the realization of this project has been ensured due to the relentless efforts put together by Lionsgate, Tim Sullivan, and Chris Hammond. As per The Hollywood Reporter, they have strived their way hard to access the film's copyright holders for reimagining the film.
Magic is derived from a novel by the American novelist William Goldman. The leading star of the film, Anthony Hopkins, garnered nominations at the BAFTAs and Golden Globes for his impeccable portrayal of the emotionally conflicted ventriloquist, Corky. Along with Hopkins, the film stars Ann-Margaret, Ed Lauter, Burgess Meredith, and many others.
