Spider-Man: Brand New Day has received a new update, which might have revealed the villain in the upcoming MCU film.
The update comes from Monica Avitto, the movie's costume prop modeler, who creates the props used during production. She shared her mood board behind the costumes, reportedly for the main villain standing up against the web-slinger, and it might offer credibility to one of the recent rumors. Here's her mood board:
The images in her mood board show different types of armor and headgear that will serve as inspiration for the villain's costume. Two of these photos reveal hachi-gane, a protective headgear often worn by samurai or ninja warriors.
It all hints at the character of the Silver Samurai, who had mainly fought the X-Men but has reportedly been in a battle against Spider-Man as well. Yet, it's important to note that Marvel Studios or Sony Pictures Releasing haven't shared an official update about the key antagonist in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Let's go through what we know about the movie so far.
What do we know about the villain in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reportedly begun principal photography in Glasgow, Scotland. It's currently underway across the port city, where Tom Holland was present.
Fans have started sharing photos from the sets and speculating on how it would play out in the movie. Some of these photos led them to guess that Mister Negative (Martin Li) is the supervillain in this upcoming movie. In comics, he was up against Spider-Man and The Punisher, both of whom will be present in the new Spider-Man film. So, the fans might be up to something with these theories.
On the other hand, Monica Avitto's mood board takes us on a different tangent, which makes it seem like Silver Samurai will be the main villain. Whether the armor or the attire, everything hints in that direction. It still needs to be seen how it will all add up in the end. However, the mood board is enough to get fans speculating about it.
Based on what we know so far, the Breaking Bad star Michael Mando is all set to reprise his role as Mac Gargan (Scorpion), but it's not clear who the other villain would be.
