Exterritorial filming locations: Where was the Netflix thriller filmed?

The Netflix thriller Exterritorial has been filmed in two countries, Austria and Germany.

The filming locations have been meticulously picked to fit the ethos of its gripping story, as it has a blend of both citified as well as historical establishments.

Helmed and penned by Christian Zübert, the story is situated at the US Consulate in Frankfurt. It follows the plot of an ex-army official, Sara, who finds her son Josh has disappeared at the US consulate, as the mother-son duo are set to embark on a new journey in the USA. She is now set to find the whereabouts of Josh, whilst uncovering the notorious schemes behind it.

The film stars Jeanne Goursaud, Rickson Guy da Silva, Dougray Scott, Kayode Akinyemi, Lera Abova, Annabelle Mandeng, etc.

Exterritorial filming locations: Where was the Netflix thriller filmed?

The filming of Exterritorial took place in 2023, and it took around three months to complete. It started from 18th September and concluded on 17th November 2023.

Since the shooting expanded across two different countries, it took a lot of exploration for the team to find the perfect locations that fit into the world of the film's storyline.

The primary location of the film was in Germany, and the extra shots were filmed in Austria. Maximum of the shots were filmed at real locations.

1) Alte Wirtschaftsuniversität, at Vienna, Austria

Austria is one of the important locations of Exterritorial. Vienna has been the location in Austria where some of its filming took place.

Within Vienna, the shoot took place at the old building of Vienna University of Economics and Business, which is also known as, Alte Wirtschaftsuniversität. It is located at Augasse 2/6, 1090 Vienna.

Both the outdoor and indoor scenes were shot in the building. The interior of this structure, its terrace, and its basement parking area were shown as part of the US consulate building. The momentous scenes of the film, including Sara Wulf crawling up the building, have been shot here as well.

2) Frankfurt am Main, Germany

Frankfurt am Main at Hesse, Germany has been one of the most crucial locations of the film. Spaces, including Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, that is, the Frankfurt Central Station, have also been filmed.

Frankfurt am Main is a busy, metropolitan location in Germany, which is also largely popular and is also quite distinctly identifiable. Aerial shots of the buildings have been used to establish the city in the film. The citified feel of Frankfurt am Main adds to the feeling of tension, trepidation, and intensity that the storyline demands.
