First trailer for Rabbit Trap starring Dev Patel reveals an ominous threat in the woods

The official trailer for Rabbit Trap has been released, offering a glimpse into its unsettling story.

Premiered at the beginning of this year at the 2025 Sundance Festival, the film is now all set to release on 12th September 2025. This psychological horror film marks the feature directorial debut of Bryn Chainey, who has also penned the film.

The cast includes Golden Globe-nominated actor Dev Patel, along with BIFA-winning actor Rosy McEwen. Welsh-born actor Jade Croot also joins the cast.

Rabbit Trap: When a piece of sound dims the lines of myth and materiality

Rooted in Welsh folklore, the story of Rabbit Trap takes place in 1973. The film follows the story of a musician couple who make a transition from bustling city life to the slow, quiet life in Wales in a quest for artistic stimulation.

Amid Wales’ green landscape, their search for inspiration takes an unexpected turn. It all happens when they inadvertently document a piece of sound that has remained unheard all this time.

The recording disturbs the region’s ancient myths, bringing a mysterious entity into their lives. Upon the arrival of the entity, the couple’s lives lose touch with actuality.

Its synopsis, as per IMDb, goes as follows:

Married couple Daphne and Darcy Davenport are two musicians who moved from London to a cottage in Wales to complete their new album. By accident they record a mystical sound never heard before and gradually disconnect from reality.

The trailer for Rabbit Trap begins with Dev Patel's character, Darcy, who is out in the forests collecting sounds from different places. It opens with a voiceover of a conversation between Rosy McEwen as Daphne and Darcy.

Rosy begins by uttering a thought-provoking question:

"What happens when a sound dies? Where does it go?"

Upon which, Darcy replies:

"When you hear a sound, you become its home."

Then, Rosy says:

"With your eyes, you enter the world. With your ears, the world enters you."

This piece of conversation gives us the crux of the storyline of Rabbit Trap: a sound inhabiting a place, a sound engulfing a person. That is exactly what happens in the film when a particular sound, otherwise inaccessible to humans, is collected by them. This causes disruption in the spiritual world that lies in the region.

They unknowingly cross into forbidden territory, shown when Darcy steps into a fairy ring. Fairy rings are natural mushroom circles found in the grass. This phenomenon has huge relevance in Welsh mythology as well. They are either seen as unsafe zones in relation to Satanic or Wiccan entities, or associated with prosperity.

The sound that Rosy remarks to be “sublime” sounds a bit like a spell. However, an unknown person interacts with the couple regarding the sound. The person, portrayed by Jade Croot, tells them about the supernatural existence of the region, explaining:
