Jon Stewart is celebrating the news of Jimmy Kimmel's show's return. The American comedian and writer, during The Daily Show, told his audience:
"In other ABC news, young Jimmy Kimmel is coming back to television. I'll tell you, Jimmy Kimmel's flying high like Advil today."
Along with being happy over his return, Jon Stewart also supported the campaign that asked people to cancel Hulu and Disney+ in order to bring back Kimmel's show and show him support.
"I want to say this seriously: that campaign that you all launched, pretending that you were going to cancel Hulu while secretly racing through four seasons of Only Murders in the Building, that really worked. Congratulations. Wasn't it interesting to try and figure out all the tentacles Disney has in your daily life?"
Disney announced on September 22 that Kimmel’s show would return to television on September 23.
Sinclair to replace Jimmy Kimmel Live! with news programming
While the show’s return is good news for Jimmy fans, Sinclair made it clear in a tweet that they will be replacing it with news programming. The company posted a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) on September 22, where they wrote:
"Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return."
Sinclair Broadcast Group, the largest owner of ABC stations, also owns affiliates for Fox, NBC, and CBS. On September 17, the company announced on X that it would suspend Kimmel's show and air a special in remembrance of Charlie Kirk in the show’s usual timeslot.
The company also stated that it won’t bring back Kimmel's show on its stations until it has formal talks with ABC about professionalism and responsibility.
In addition, the company requested that Kimmel issue an apology and make a donation to Charlie Kirk’s family and Turning Point USA for his comments during the broadcast.
In the same statement, they wrote:
"Regardless of ABC's plans for the future of the program, Sinclair intends not to return "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" to our air until we are confident that appropriate steps have been taken to uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform."
As of now, Kimmel has not made any public statement on social media regarding his show’s suspension or return.
