Girls Trip 2 filming window revealed with all major stars ready to return

We have some exciting updates about the upcoming sequel, Girls Trip 2, as Tiffany Haddish reveals in an interview with People.

The filming is about to start by the coming summer, as the actor reveals:

“That’s what I do know. We’re supposed to start shooting this summer.”

Along with Haddish, the stars of the original film are also returning, including Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, and Jada Pinkett Smith.

The original film, Girls Trip, came out in 2017. The comedy film follows the plot of "Flossy Posse," a gal pal group who go out for a fun, adventurous trip to New Orleans as they rebuild their connection. It is helmed by Malcolm D. Lee; the film currently stands with an impressive score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. Joining the director, the film is co-produced by Will Packer.

"It's somewhere exotic," reveals Tiffany Haddish about the filming location of Girls Trip 2

While speaking to People, Tiffany Haddish hints that even though the destination is not clear, the filming location of Girls Trip 2 is going to be rare and unexpected, as she further mentions:

“I don’t know exactly where we're going, but I know it's somewhere exotic and somewhere we don’t normally go, but we should go as much as possible.”

In a 2023 interview with Variety, one of the writers of the original film - Tracy Oliver, spilled the beans regarding the location of Girls Trip 2. It was revealed that the series will be set at the annual Afrochella music festival in Ghana. Oliver had mentioned:

“[Will Packer] might kill me, we’re looking to set it in Ghana.”

Joining Tracy Oliver, Kenya Barris had co-penned the screenplay of the original film.

However, in 2024, Will Packer, while speaking on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, revealed that they are going for an exotic location, even though he remained tight-lipped about the name of the destination. He also mentioned that there will be an addition of some new cast members in the sequel, as he stated:

“We actually are looking at doing an exotic locale - I can’t reveal it right now, but I do have a script for the first time. Girls Trip is happening. Girls Trip 2. Bringing back all the ladies. And we’re going to add maybe some new ladies.”

So whether Girls Trip 2 is going to be set in Ghana is something that shall be uncovered as soon as the film arrives. Although it was confirmed earlier, there now seems to be a sense of mystery and ambiguity attached to the destination.

But one thing remains constant -- the trip is going to be set in an extraordinary location, and we cannot wait to watch the spirited girl gang again!
