Dylan O’Brien has been called out by his sibling Julz after an interview he did a year ago resurfaced online. In the Vulture interview to promote the movie he starred in, Ponyboi, the Teen Wolf actor, seated alongside some of his cast mates, expressed that he was grateful to have a trans person like Julz in his life as a younger sibling.
The 33-year-old actor added that the queer people around him not only helped in his daily life but informed his role as River Gallo, a gender-nonconformist in the Ponyboi movie:
“I have a trans, nonbinary sibling. I know people in my personal life as well who are queer, and I am so grateful for how much it deepens my experience in this world.”
@gaytimes on Instagram shared Dylan’s statement in the Vulture interview with a picture of the latter caught in an embrace with his sibling Julz. The sibling in question didn’t take too kindly to the statements circulating online and took to the comments to make serious claims against their brother.
Julz claimed that Dylan hadn’t spoken to them in over a year and didn’t bother to wish them a happy birthday:
“He also hasn't spoken to me in over a year. He didn't check in when I had top surgery. He didn't even wish me a happy bday last week! But glad I could deepen his experience in this world and make the world love him that much more."
The above statement seems to suggest strained relations between the siblings and has sparked a discussion online as to their family dynamics.
Dylan O’Brien, stars in comedy film Twinless, set to be released in September 2025
Dylan O’Brien stars alongside James Sweeney in the dark comedy Twinless, which will hit theatres on September 5, 2025. The movie follows the story of two young men, Roman and Dennis, who form an unlikely friendship after they meet in a support group for people who have lost their twin.
They confide in each other and begin a physical relationship. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2025 and won the Audience Award and the Special Jury Award for Acting.
Eric d’Arbeloff and Howard Cohen, President of Roadside Attractions, distribution company for Twinless movie, praised O’Brien and Sweeney’s performance in the film:
"Dylan O’Brien’s performance in a dual role is nothing less than a star-defining turn, and multi-hyphenate Sweeney declares himself a generational talent both in front of and behind the camera,”
At the time of writing, Dylan O’Brien hadn’t responded to his sibling’s statement.
